You think you've been screwed by MS?

    You haven't.

You need to read this. I don't have time to post it in its entirety here because I'm running out the door, so I'm going to link you to Hawty's blog. Please, read the whole thing to fully understand the magnitude of what a dick move this was on MS's part.

    Prepare to be shocked.

Yup, a proud fanboy too. You can't fault him for loving gaming more than you do though. Collecting those signatures meant a lot to him, and for MS to wash it off for absolutely no reason is complete shite.

I can't even defend this... Wow this is nuts. It didn't say if he has talked to MS since he got it back. I would like to know what if anything MS said about it.

im not in any way defending MS, i think ive made it well known that i dont approve of their form, but really, if he charished this multi-autographed console that much why would he even use it?

would you wear any sports memorabilia that was autographed by somebody your a huge fan of? no, you would keep it put up, to preserve it. Ms was wrong for doing what they did, but i dont feel bad for this guy. if he wanted to have one for memorabilia it should have been just that, he should have bought a second one to play on. he obviously has some form of decent income or he wouldnt be making it to the events to get it signed.

What amazes me is that he thought he would actually get this thing back the way he sent it in. Yes it sucks that he was promised he would get his console back and he did. But do you think a $7 an hr warehouse worker who is processing these boxes would know not to clean the thing off?

I feel bad for the guy, but if those signatures meant that much to me and I was in his position, I think I would have gotten an aracde box.

Oh god. Sent that in for repair? What? You got to be kiddin' me!
Sorry, I have no sympathy for this dude.
I would have NEVER sent that thing anywhere. Buying a new replacement would have been the ONLY option for me because it would have been worth it in this case. I bet he wishes he had just bought a new one now. Something like that is gaming memorabilia and should have been treated as such. Repairing 360's is NOT a personal experience. They don't give 2 shits about your precious console. I would have to personally be on hand if I let someone repair something like that.

Sorry dude. You asked for it.

No, I wouldn't wear my Xbox 360 either. Good point.

I have a few signed faceplates, and I've put them all on my 360, since that's kind of the point. Also, since most events are free to get into, I won't infer anything about his financial situation, since free is pretty cheap out here on the East Coast. He covered his bases by calling MS to talk about it first, and even included a letter in his box. And yes, I'd use it as a console because I worked hard to make it a unique console, and this

is completely bad-ass. Not everyone collects memorabilia just to display them, some folks collect them to use them, the way they were intended to be used. Some people leave their Star Wars figures in packages, some open them up, he still did everything by the book that he was supposed to, and tried his best to procure a safe return for his unique box. Wiping off a permanent marker drawing above was more than cleaning it.

First, he ASSUMED someone in MEXICO could read english. We all now what they say about assume. The absolute only way I would have had this replaced/repair would have been if it was sent to Redmond,WA and personally hand delivered back to me. That's it. Or, I would have spent the cash to have it repaired locally. Never would have thought of sending it to some contracted joint for a repair where they get thousands daily.

The repair center is in Texas by the way.

I would so use that console if I had it. That's why MS sells faceplates, why they sell the Elite in black, why they sell the Halo edition. The point is to show your enthusiasm, customized to you.

This was an incredibly stupid move on MS's side. I would be so disenchanted with my 360 after that. I wouldn't even want to look at it. I would have a hard time playing my 360 ever again.

Granted, it is a bold move to send your console off to a repair center with something like that. It looks like he did everything right. They have no legal responsibility sure, but dammit, they have an ethical responsibility to help get that console back to its owner with the signatures. And it was just incompetence--wiping the signatures off--that's downright vindictive.

My course of action: call MS everyday to express my fury with them. Demand that they make it right somehow. And if they refuse, then buy a PS3.

i have a question, if you were in this guys situation, what would you expect MS to do to compensate for this error?

Here's my best guess of what will happen:

MS will get word of it, he will be flown to PAX, or Bungie Studios, or both. He will tour, meet with devs/artists/reps and have his new/old 360 signed again. He will be given another one, so he doesn't have to worry about it breaking, and he will get a bunch of cool shit.

My guess is that he'll get it back and then some.

As one or more have said above, this guy should have expected some shit like this would happen. If he loved the console so much, and it meant so much to him, why would he send it to a MS repair center? A place known far and wide for being idiots. This guy got what he deserved. If he loved all the signatures on the console, and wanted it to stay safe, he should have had some common sense. He deserves nothing in return for being an idiot.

Also, I doubt any of the Mexican/Asian workers they have working at the repair centers know who any of those people are. They probably thought the signatures were just a kids scribbles and used some industrial strength cleaner to knock out the marker in one or two wipes.

Also x2, I am in no way defending Microsoft or their shitty repair center. I just think most people would have been smart enough to, you know, buy another console.

Because it's a repair center, and they repair consoles that are broken. His console broke, and they repair them.
