Thread: How to get a Type 2 (Open) NAT on your PS3

Well i followed all the steps in the guide gave my ps3 a static ip took me a few goes got some things wrong but set it up and could get on psn and all no problem.Then i typed the ip of my modem into google got to a linkys site and forewarded all the ports but when i click apply its as if i didint have my internet switched on because i get a message saying cannot find server.

I have my modem contected to my Linksys WRT54GS router and it conected wirlesslessly to my PS3. Now that I have my modem on Bridge mode I get a DNS era. I called sony and they said I have the wrong ports? They said to use?

Thanks for trying to help but we decided to get rid of the router. I just don't like it and am not cazy for the support from Linksys. I am thinking about getting a D-LINK GAMERLOUNGE WIRELESS 108G GAMING ROUTER. It has gotten pretty good reviews.

Well I switched my ps3 on and i also have a laptop I used my laptop so I could use both at the same time I checked my stats noted the IP and all that made a new wireless connection got it wrong a few times but figured it out made my IP end in 5 then i typed my default IP into the address bar typed everything you did except replaced 23 with 5 and did'int enter the xbox ports.

Does your router have a cap on the number of IP addresses it will give out? For example, if it will only give out IP's within the range of .2 - .22, then if you give something a .23, the router won't like that.

One other thing that I noticed with my router was that uPnP funked up stuff. In theory it should be on, but when it was on it didn't allow my ports to actually be open. I ended up having to turn it off. That was when I was setting up my xbox though, I didn't have to change it when I set up my PS3.

Did your laptop grab .5 too perhaps? That might cause a problem.

Double check how many IP addresses your router can give out. Then see how many it actually has given out (there should be an IP table list). Then choose something a little higher (but still within the range that can be given out), for your PS3.

I took all the gateway info from the connection status on the ps3 I would go as high as 85 I believe for the IP I will try 20 and see if that works

I was trying to get a NAT type 2 but even though I was setting everything correctly it still wouldn't work. The reason I was having issues was because I have an internet telephone service. The modem that the Catv company gave me has an internal router but it only used for the phone service. What I had to do was get the cable company set my router IP in the DMZ of the cable modem router. Once this was done my NAT changed to type 2 because the router setting could now take effect. I hope this helps some one.

Ever since I got the phone I never thought about the checking my NAT type until I got Warhawk. I was having issues getting into games. All I did was remove the D-Link router from my system. I was still getting NAT type 3. I then looked up my modem's user guide online and discovered it had router functions in it to handle the calls while you're online. I then called the cable company and they helped me out.

First off do you have internet phone service? If you do then it should work. when you place whatever router in the DMZ of your phone service modem it connects the internet directly to your router. In other word it is directly exposed to the internet for all to see. This should not be a problem because most routers have built in firewalls and won't expose you to any malicious activity. You can then set up your router to open the correct ports. If you go to www.portforward.com/ and then look up your router make and model they will give instructions on how to open the correct ports. Hope this helps.

yah.... ive just set up a network... i used to have my xbox plugged directly into my modem, now i have a router and now its given me trouble with nat type 3. so all i do is enable my UPnP? evryting used to work great before i used the router.
