Thread: How to get a Type 2 (Open) NAT on your PS3

I don't about wireless ISPs. And I have no idea about Malayasia's wireless broadband. Without getting into the router, the major issue potentially see is just the ISP. How fast of the speed does it really get and how much latency does it have. Here in the US, 3G is NOT broadband. And those who use satellite ISP, suffer from high latency, which causes a lot of data loss.

So, I would first check to see if the ISP has any forums and if anyone was able to connect to the PSN with a NAT 2. If possible, I would try to connect the PS3 directly to the phone.

My guess, I think he's out of luck.

first off, not enough information to help you well. I don't think signal strength will cause a NAT3. It may cause issues about staying connected to your network though.

Have you tried connecting the PS3 directly to your modem? What was the result. And you can search on the net to find a command to look your DNS addresses. You only need those if your setup does not forward that information to your PS3.

what kind of ISP are you using (DSL, cable, satellite), do you use a router (what kind)?

Can't tell you exactly how to connect directly to your PS3. But the cable from your modem needs to go into the ethernet port of the PS3.

You really need to go to simplest setup to more and more complicated. How about take your PS3 to the modem, and use a small TV to see what it says? Basically, need to make sure it's something within the modem or your ISP.

That sucks. Have you run any speed tests or any other tests on your system from another device? Maybe your computer or another console?

For starters, check out this test site and see what kind of streaming speeds you get and whether there are drops or not. Let us know what you get.

Those are pretty good speeds, but they're burst speed measures. If you run that silverlight test linked above it will give you a better idea of what your speed is like over a longer time frame to see if it is dropping. Let me know how it turns out.

basically, if you're speed jumps around too much, you can loose your connection with the server. Also, you may want to try a gaming session with the modem directly connected to the PS3. It may give you an idea if it's more an ISP issue rather than your equipment.

Dang, well that sucks and is good at the same time. Sucks that your router is giving you issues, but good that it has been narrowed down to the culprit.

What kind of router do you have again? How old is it? It might be dying. Before you replace it you can jack around with the settings and see if they make any difference, but if it isn't passing through a solid signal, there might be nothing you can do about it.

Well, from what you said, sounds like the router. Now, I would test to see if it makes an difference if the PS3 is connected wired versus wirelessly. Try wired first.since it's has less factors to contend with. Don't forget to you may still need to port forward or DMZ, and try it with UPnP on and off.

It could work with a wired connect better than wirelessly or vice versa. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it may not work for you. Also, if it turns out the router just isn't working either way, you can try to use DD-WRT firmware hack for routers if your router is compatible.

without more information, I'm assuming you're double NATing. Basically, both your modem and router are trying to router information for your network. One of them needs to have NAT turned off. I suggest setting it up in a bridge mode, and have your Linksys as an access point.
