Quo is the newest "member" to be interviewed. Quosef, it has been my pleasure to have gotten to know you over the past couple of years and i am honored to call you a great friend
Enjoy the myth, the icon, the photochop legend that is.... QUO
What is your forum name & gamertag or PSN ID or Wii #?
Quo on the 360, Quosef on the PS3 (at Keezy's request I got an ID, but I don't have a PS3). No Nintendo either.
What is your real name and what do you to pay for all these games(your job)?
My real name is Randy Guess. I'm a commercial real estate appraiser. It's, uh, very exciting. I would guess most jobs aren't real exciting once you've been in it for 18 years or so, though.
Where do you call home?
Hendersonville, NC
Wife and kids? Great, understanding wife who doesn't mind my geeky hobbies, and two cool kids, 11 and 8.
Did you go to school to acquire your legendary Photochopping skillz?
no on the schooling.
That branched out from my never-satisfied need to make fun of people
and started with the first PGL War... perhaps even before.
I started putting people's heads on the bodies of soldiers doing goofy stuff... from there things just got out of hand. The rest is history.
What got you into gaming?
I've been a gamer since Intellivision. My brothers and I actually wrote a software program that would keep track of the neighborhood "Standings" in the games we all played when we were kids. It wasn't just video games, but all kinds of stuff. As we got older we found new stuff to play because we were so far apart. For a while it was Links golf (we'd mail recorded games back and forth and play against each other), then we moved on to online stuff like Star Wars X-Wing Alliance, etc... then eventually Xbox Live came along and filled the gap.
Where did you come up with your gamertag/PSN ID?
Oy. There was this kid at my Junior High School. His name was Quovadis and has was a bad dude, always intimidating people. Large afro, gap between his front teeth. Big and scary as heck, but not smart. His younger brother had passed him grade-wise. My cruel brothers and I eventually started calling each other Quovadis when we did something not so smart, and lo and behold, somehow it stuck to me. It got shortened to "Quo" somewhere along the way. I have no idea what happened to the original Quovadis. Poor dude. His name means "Where do you go?" or similar in Latin. His brother's name was "Clint", which evidently means "Farther than your brother".
How many hours a week are you gaming online?
Not enough, but more than I should.I'd say 10 hours, maybe 15 sometimes. Depends on the workload and the weather.
Why do you game?
To relax with friends. It's mindless. I think all day. I don't want to think all night.
What's your favorite gaming fuel/snack?
I usually don't eat while I game. When Wonder, Keezles, Crip and I played through Halo 3 the night of its release (which has to be one of my all-time favorite game-fests, btw), I macked Oreos and drank Amp. Major system malfunction over the next few days. Oh, the humanity... these days, it's water.
Have you ever participated in FNFF?
Uh, yeah. A couple.
When do you normally game?
After the kids go to bed... 9:30 EST up until 12:30 or so. If Snake and Supafreak seduce me into something every once in a while I'll last until 2 or 2:30 from time to time, but not often.
Do you game with your family/local friends?
Not a lot of local gamers. Sometimes a banjo is a difficult thing to put down, evidently. As far as family, Schlickabod is active and is my older brother. Bomali is less active and is my younger brother. They are both still fun to game with after all these years.
What's your current favorite game?
The best game over the past year for me has been NCAA Football 2009. It's gotten the most play, has a great combination of on and offline play, and lets you get together with friends in a low-stress enviro. I play Halo 3 when I can (I stink and get pwned bad), Gears 2 a good bit lately but mostly co-op. I enjoy pretty much all varieties of games, but I'm partial to anything with co-op.
What's your favorite game of all time?
Geeky, but the game that made the biggest impression on me was Final Fantasy VII. Great combination of storytelling and gameplay. One of the first games I remember that employed cut-scenes into gameplay to get you more involved in the story (although the story got really jacked and strange). Beyond that, I'd say Halo 3 for its flexibility.
Do you like SP or MP more?
Definitely MP, with a hard lean towards co-op rather than competitive. Any kind of team play is good though.
If your batteries died in your controller right before the final boss battle of a game and you didn't have any replacements in the house, would you (a) knock on a neighbor's door and borrow some; (b) drive frantically to the store for replacements; (c) turn the game off and charge the batteries or buy replacements the next day?
You know how I know yer gay, Snake? Cuz you keep asking this lame question...Actually, I'm not that intense. PLUS, I have the tendency to make things harder than they are, so I'd turn the game off. Usually when I do that, I beat the boss, figure out the puzzle, etc. within 5 minutes of turning it back on, so everyone wins and I don't have to hemorrhage in frustration. (Editors note: it was really hard to edit this one, but i'll let you have yer fun....dickback...)
How far would you travel to meet gamers you play with online?
2,759 miles. That's the distance from Hendersonville, NC to Seattle, WA. I went to PAX last year and it was awesome meeting everyone. I've also been known to road trip... I went to Cincy to meet Keezy and Wonder a few years ago. 6 hours by car each way, and well worth it. They're great guys.
If you where stuck on a island with one console and one game what would they be? (and yes, you get an XBox Live Connection!)
Actually, I'd just want a volleyball with a bloody face on it. Evidently it's the only way to stay sane. I'd name it "Peench".
What brought you to PGL? I randomly happened on the old site which shall not be named. I'm proudly one of the small group who got things going with PGL after the departure from that place.
What do you like about PGL? The people. I like that everyone's mostly laid back. For me, the more laid back the better. I am not hardcore at all, I do all this for fun. I just don't have the time to get real good at any one game. I also love the back and forth, smacktalk, debate, and the opportunity to make fun/be made fun of.
Xbox live nemesis?
Does it matter what I type here Snake? You're just going to claim that it's you. I really don't have an official one. Like everyone else, Cujo and Desi destroy me in everything with a gun. I had a little battle going back and forth with AlphaQ for a bit during the Halo 3 beta that was fun, but it settled because we're rarely on line at the same time. If I've had any nemesi (that's plural, right?) they've all been or fun. Thornes is my intellectual nemesis. That dude knows every single thing that I don't care about.(I keed bro.) Oh and Snake pwns me regularly...
Favorite movie?
Tough one. Lord of the Rings Trilogy... the first one was the best part though. Favorite slightly obscure movie would have to be The Usual Suspects.
Favorite sports team and why?
The Dallas Cowboys. I don't need a reason. The Red Wings rock also.
Favorite band?
My current fave is a guy named Jeremy Camp. Good stuff. Favorites All-Time are Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
What was your favorite part about PAX 2008? And will you attend in 09?
The PGL Party at Garage Billiards was fun stuff. Hard to pick an exact moment, although I'd say watching Bronx, Snake and Wonder make fun of people is waaaay high up there. I just loved getting to meet everyone and putting faces with the voices of xbox live and the posts of PGL. Sunday morning was pretty rough...Poor Sam looked like he needed a blood tranfusion, I've never seen anyone so pale. It's also the only time i've seen a grown man bowl barefoot.
No on Pax 09. The give and take of marriage means that I'll be elsewhere during that time. I'll shoot for Boston PAX, if it happens, the following year. I'm game for getting together a group somewhere in the southeast though!
