What is your real name and what do you to pay for all these games(your job)?
My real name is Steve Holtam. I am a licensed insurance agent working at a local insurance agency. I create marketing materials and print ads for the agency and assist the guys that actually sell insurance with brining new business into the agency. It is all quite boring. (See the movie Office Space.)
What brought you to PGL?
I was with PGL before there was a PGL. Back then we were mostly audio/video guys that gamed. Now we are mostly gamers with nice audio/video equipment. I'm the rational moderator here.
What do you like about PGL?
I like the off style humor, or is that the odd style of humor that most of the members here seem to have and or adopt upon joining. I have always said that this it what PGL is about, our humor. We are mostly adult gamers that come to PGL to talk about games, news and life, all while having fun and being as goofy as "mature" gamers can be. I also like new members that jump in head first and "get" what we are all about.
Where did you come up with your gamertag/PSN ID?
Serren. Sadly, while picking my gamertag, there was a news story about the Japanese subway sarin gas attack that happened some years prior on the radio. I heard this while I was trying to think of my original Xbox Gamertag. I changed the spelling though. It was not my first choice. Others names I tried were taken, so Serren I am.
How many hours a week are you gaming online?
When I am not in school, I try to game about 10 hours a week or so. It has been tough recently since I work during the day, and then attend a local university in the evenings. Not to mention the wife and child. So gaming over the past few months has been very thin.
Why do you game?
I game for the social aspect almost entirely. Since I spend almost my entire gaming time on Live!, my single player game time is very limited. I have only finished Gears and Call of Duty 4 in single player story mode on the 360. Nothing else.
What's your favorite snack?
Pringles Cheez Ums. They might just be called Cheddar Cheese flavor or something now. They are YUMMY!
Have you ever participated in FNFF?
I have invested heavily in games that I normally would never play just to participate in FNFF. So yeah, I'm all over FNFF. I even suffered through Halo3, the game series I suck the most at. That was really frustrating. REALLY. After about a month of that torture, I sold that game. I do love the military team fighting games, like the classic Call of Duty battles and such. Those were great fun.
When do you normally game?
Only during the evenings.
Do you game with your family/local friends?
Yes. Lately, all my 360 sees is Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Viva Piñata (my daughter). My brother recently picked up a 360 as well. His gamertag is UtahPhil.
What's your current favorite game?
First, I sing really bad. Second, I love to sing, loud. I have been playing more Rock Band 2 then anything currently.
What's your favorite game of all time?
Easy. Gears of War. This game rocks in so many ways. The graphics, the sounds, and of course the game play. Playing solo was awesome, but playing the entire game through with DMiller on three consecutive nights until after 3AM was a huge blast! Some of my best gaming times ever. Sadly, my seven year old daughter love to watch me play Gears before bed. Many members may have heard me argue with her over my choice of tactics or her getting mad at me for dying. It is so funny to be second guessed by a little kid over the virtues over wither to chainsaw someone in half or blast them with the shotgun. She can also do a great impression of the blind alien you fight in the game!
How far would you travel to meet gamers you play with online?
I'd travel to the ends of the Earth. Actually, I have met quite a few PGL members. Even a few of the East coasters. At PAX, I met a bunch more. Even one of the Lords. Not sure which one he was though... We usually have a blast at the get togethers. I highly recommend other members organize regional meet ups. They are a great way to place screen names with faces.
If you where stuck on a island with one console and one game what would they be?
Hmmmm.... This is a tough question. I love Gears, but I have mostly finished it every way possible. Maybe a good strategy game, like Catan. That would keep my brain working. I'd rather have a satellite phone so I could call someone to come and get my ass off the stupid island.
What is the square root of 4?
I am not sure. I think 2. I hate Math. Math almost caused me to give up school. I had to take the same math class three times to get through it. Note to others: If you have not taken a math class in 15 years, do not start again with a business math class that consists of Calc and Trig. It sucks! Having to relearn the entire math language in a matter of days is nearly impossible.
What would be the first game you would like to play in virtual reality?
Gears of War! I want to chainsaw someone. Second would be Dead Rising. I love to kill zombies!
Do you have an Xbox live nemesis?
None. Or anyone that plays Halo. It's a toss up...
Rumor has it that you had problems getting into E3 once. Something about filling out a press pass wrong so you had to sneak in?
It was more of a brute force entry. I screwed up my press credentials, so I would not be able to enter the show with the rest of PGL and the press. It was going to be an hour or two before the peons would be let in. That is not how I roll. The show floor had two levels of security when the press doors opened. First was two escalators, where security guards were checking press badges at the top of each. Badges, what badges? I just flashed the back of my non-press badge during the rush, and slipped by that level. Second level. Now four sets of open doors with teams of guards at each. Well, my first effort worked once, I'll try it again. Denied. Some brute grabbed me and tossed me aside. I just kept attempting to plow through each door with the crowd. I was in at the third door.
