    AV123.com Incredible Sale Prices

These sales are just too good to not have me post them here. I love my speakers and I had to pass this on to PGLers who might be looking to get some speakers.

The Rocket series are on sale, some of which are like 50% off! Some of these prices are UNHEARD of, even compared to some of the used prices.

For example, the towers I have, the 450s were $899 (plus shipping), now they are $499 (shipping included).

My center channel normally $599+shipping, now $299 shipped.

    Anyway, you get the idea.

    Check them out!!

Name, I don't want sound high and mighty because it's not my intention at all, but if you can't see yourself spending that kind of money for speakers, this Home Theater hobby is not likely for you.

For the quality, especially with the sales price and even without, these speakers are fantastic for the price.

Same general relation can be said with automobiles. A lot of people are content driving around 30-50k cars around. Is that a bad thing? No, but then there are the enthusiasts would want better performance, looks, rarity, etc. who will buy the $80+ cars.

So, there are people who want a Home Theater, and then there are Home Theater Enthusiasts. I am the latter. It's not higher stature, it's simply more love for the hobby; and that love comes at a price.

i wasnt meaning to dog on you guys for your hobby, it just seems a little out there on the prices of that stuff, is there really a noticable difference between $5000 worth of speakers compared to $500? is it a difference that an untrained ear like mine would be able to tell?

I don't wanna sound like an "ass" as some people call me, but why are they on sale? Are they discontinued models? Would they sound better than my Polks? I like buying stuff... (nevermind, only Rosewood finish)

Well, Jon said it best...love don't come cheap. And yes, there is definately a sound difference between $5000 in speakers vs. $500, especially if everything is calibrate correctly for the room.

I would guess they're probably getting ready to move in new stock. I haven't heard those speakers, so I can't say if they'll sound better. But if you're happy with your speakers, then why change?

I'm 80% deaf in one ear, so my hearing is obviously not the best. However, I have a full room of Definitive Technology speakers, and even I can notice countless differences in these speakers over cheaper speakers.

There's nothing inherently wrong with cheaper speakers, but the difference can be heard as you go up the price scale.

Man I want that center channel! Too bad I'm broke.

Name, I hear you on prices, but if you want to be in any hobby involving video and audio, you're going to have to get over sticker shock. The prosumer MiniDV video camera I need for shooting projects for clients is around $4000. Some people may say "But you can get a camera for $300." Yes, but it lacks the quality (in terms of video, audio and build) that the better one does.

Speakers are well worth it in the long run. If you take proper care of them, you'll be enjoying your speakers for years to come. Remember, sound is 60% of the experience.

MadB, yes they are trying to get through inventory to make way for the Rocket II series, but another motive is that Mark Schifter is trying to get his warehouse inventory under $1,000,000 worth, probably for tax purposes.

Anyway, Wormhole, Yes there is definitely a difference between the Axioms and the Rockets. I used to have Axioms and they were very detailed. The shortest explanation I can give is that the Rockets are more "laid back". I hate using that term, but for lack of better explanation, I'll say it. I loved how detailed the Axioms were, but I realized, after owning these, that I prefer the sound of the Rockets over the Axioms especially for long periods of listening. The Axioms were never fatiguing, per se, but I can go louder with these speakers and not worry about having to "turn it down!" as my wife likes to say. As for the SVS line, I can't say for sure, I've never heard their speakers.

Name, there most certainly is a difference between the $5000 and $500 dollar speakers. Unfortunately, in this hobby, there is diminishing returns. I think the biggest jump will be from $500 to $2000 range. Also it's a matter of preference, also. Some of the even higher priced speakers don't necessarily sound better (they can sound different, but not better), but it's also a hobby of aesthetics, too. Not only do you want the speakers to sound good, but you (and your significant other) will want them to look good, too. Adding to the price is, custom finishes, Wood Veneers and the different color choices, different shaped speakers, etc. All that come at at price.

Brad is definitely correct. If you invest in good speakers and you end up loving them, you can keep them around for decades. Now, is it worth it to spend the extra couple thousand dollars in the long run? Quite possibly. I think my search for speakers has nearly come to an end and I think these will be the speakers I keep for years and years to come.

I didn't think about the aesthetics of speakers. I personally try to stay away from black finishes; unfortunately I didn't have much choice the first time around with my Klipsh since they were at the end of the production cycle and I had a time limit with my buddy quitting his job. The later speakers I got--Aperion Audio and the SVS 12 ultra/2--I went with wood finishes. A Cherry wood for Aperion since they're going to the parents and that's what momma preferred. A light oak on the SVS since I like oak and light colored funiture.

I know most people would think I'm crazy spending thousands of dollars on HT equipment. The one thing they never say, it sounds like my stuff at home, when they're only getting hometheater in a box. Everyone is blown away or really impressed by the sound and visuals. Even my parents are more into DVDs and watching them at home then going to the theater because, I find, my setup sounds as good or better, and there's no distrations or anything. I still remember seeing Star Wars III and the theater had a blown woofer.

And to reinforce what Jon said, those who spend the money and do their research and buy the "expensive" speakers tend to take care of them and have them, literally, for decades. The only reason I went and got the SVS was because I didn't like the paper cone and I could tell I was pushing my sub a lot more than I wanted. That SVS rocks!!! Now I just need to upgrade my reciever for new surround decoding and a bit more power; I like the Denon 4800 series, and a good HD movie player once they HD format has been resolved. That and I like those tweeter extenders.

To put it in perspective...think of women shoes and/or purses. To me, I can't see myself spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on either of them, but I know quite a women who will. I realize it what makes them happy and what they enjoy, just like how I enjoy my electronics.

The short answer is yes, name, there is a difference.......Even the untrained ear should be able to tell the DIFFERENCE in sound even if they don't know what to listen for........Think like this, a camry is a fine car and rides well, yet a lexus cost more but for that extra money you are getting refinement, higher quality parts and components which results in an overall more pleasurable and comfortable driving and riding experience........ Another example would be while a ford explorer rides like a truck, a mercedes suv rides and handles more like a car.......
Its the same for speakers, in the design, the drivers and the materials used for construction, and the overall accuracy, imaging, and transparency of the speaker,.... A great speaker means you hear the music, the vocals, and the instruments and not the speaker itself...........................

Quit trying to justify a woman spending money on shoes, clearly that money should be invested in more games and home theater electronics
