Windows Media Player 11 running slow between songs?

So you buy a new computer, take it home and hook it up. Somehow, you were able to transfer gigs of you music to the new sexy machine. To celebrate how sexy Vista looks, you decide to listen to a few songs. Fire up Windows Media Player, and hit random. You hit play and everything goes as planned... until you hit next before the song is over.

Nothing, no sound or anything, just the sound of your processor screaming because for 10 seconds it is almost at 100% utilization. Whew, the song finally kicks in. Maybe it just had to figure out where the song was. Nope, it does it every time. What is going on?

DRM is going on, it seems. Windows is checking to make sure you aren't trying to circumvent the DRM or something like this. Anyway, there is a fix for it and it is pretty simple.

Go to: Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab > Double-click "Speakers/Headphones" > Enhancements tab > Check "Disable all enhancements" (even though none of them are checked below).

This should take care of it (at least in Vista). Sorry for making your read all the BS before hand, but it helps you understand the gravity of the situation!

That's crazy. My library is so huge that WMP11 chokes just accessing it. I wonder if this is the issue. I'll check it out and see if it makes a difference. You rule man - thanks for the tip!

I hate Windows Media Player with a passion. I am willing to use almost anything other than that program for reasons just like this one.
