    360 in the crapper?

Unfortunately my xbox 360 crapped out the other day. I was updating a simple roster for FIFA 09 and the video cut out. I still have sound but no picture. I think I've had my unit since the summer of '05. I never bought a warranty or anything so I was wondering what my options may be. I took the console to my brothers house to make sure it wasn't my cables. This blows!

Anyone have a suggestion or two?

There aren't many home remedies for the video problems, you're probably going to be out $100 for the repair. Or...

The 12 year old that owned my refurb before I got it used it as a dinner plate...you could try that out.

    Yeah no red rings.

So send it into Microsoft for repair is the best thing to do? That may be worth it....

Give them a call first (1-800-4MY-Xbox) and see what is what before you ship it out. I have a bad feeling that this might not be covered considering how old your system is. I think the RROD is the only thing that has the extended 3-year warrenty on it.

Thanks, Sam. And I'm betting your probably right about it not being covered. I'll find out soon enough...

Actually considering that if it's a launch console it will be out of warranty, you can get a new arcade with better hardware for $150.

I just had to shell out for a new arcade system yesterday because mine finally got the RRoD. Rather than repair the old one for $100, just buy a new system for $200. I believe that the new systems have hardware that is red ring free anyway. You may wind up getting it repaired and a month later it craps out for good. Besides, 2-3 weeks with no gaming is just not an option in my opinion. Good luck man.

I'd just buy an arcade for $200 before i'd give $100 to have that one repaired.

Here's a guy with the same problem who fixed it without sending it anywhere:
How to fix an Xbox 360 with sound but no video

Buying an arcade unit is your easiest but most expensive solution, the above is your cheapest, and sending it to Microsoft is somewhere in between. If you decide to try and fix it yourself like the link above suggests, let me know... I'll help.

EDIT: Just notice this was an old thread.

Have you tried it with different cables? Or a different input on the TV? My video went out once, but it wasn't the 360. One of my TV's HDMI ports went out. At first I thought it was the cable, so I swapped back to component and it worked fine. I later tried the HDMI cable again in a different slot and it worked fine.
