    Water Effects in Video Games

The German website PCGamesHardware has a gallery up of water effects through the years. Pretty amazing stuff:

    Flight Simulator - 1982

    Crysis - 2007

We come a long way, baby.

    Full slideshow.

Other than the black and white vs. color, I don't really see a difference.

Yeah, there's doing a great job with water effects. They've gotten good enough at it now that the bottleneck isn't on the water-- it's on the land. I wish they'd spend more time making terrain look realistic now. To me, that's what looks blocky and unrealistic alot.

A lot of times dirt and grass areas are pretty horrible looking, particularly where seams come together.

Jaggies are the only thing that kills water for me. Bioshock had brilliant water, but when you walked through it, it was funky.
