Transformers 2: Who has seen it and what do you think?

So who ventured out into the world late last night to see it, I was one of them and there were some amazing characters there but it was definitely worth it if you liked the first one.

I wasn't expecting much after some critics ripped it apart and didn't just take it for what it was. I thought the story progressed pretty well, and it seemed to me that none of the critics who wrote reviews I read even followed the transformers universe at all or even had seen the first movie.

Id love to hear your guy's thoughts on it or at least urge you to see it.

I will probably see it. I thought the first one was okay. I never could figure out why people loved it or why they hated it. It was just okay. Take it for what it was... hot girls, shiny CGI and explosions. The plot was weak on the first one and I suspect this one will be on par with that.

I will definitely be seeing this one. I really enjoyed the first one. Why? The hot girls, shiny CGI and explosions, like Geoff said.

Michael Bay films, as ridiculous as they are, entertain the heck out of me.

    Some early reviews:

"This celluloid abortion should be buried in a vault and shown to film students as an example of big Hollywood at its worst."

"Never in the field of blockbuster movies has so much been spent on so little."

"I hated every 149 minutes. This is so bad it's immoral. Michael Bay is a time-sucking vampire who will feast off your lost time. This is why the movie is so long."

"The best thing about "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is that it's perhaps the funniest movie of the year ... "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is not as bad as "Transformers"; somehow, in the face of long odds, it is actually worse."

"I swear to you that I have never had a film experience that felt longer than the whopping 149 minutes of Revenge of the Fallen, every single one of which I wish I had spent doing something else."

"This is the single worst film to be released thus far in the summer of 2009 and that's a whole helluva pile of bad to overcome in achieving that title."

"Despite having lowered the artistic bar to Death Valley levels, director Michael Bay has somehow managed to figure out a way to slither beneath with the flexibility of the pole dancers-in-training that he prefers to hire as his female extras."

I've yet to understand why American's love wasting their money...

I was going to take my boy to see this. Not sure now. Although I so want to see Devastator. But I'm sure it won't meet my expectations.

I knew Michael Bay wouldn't capture my childhood love of Transformers in his movies. The first sucked. The ONLY cool moment was seeing and hearing Optimus for the first time. That's only because it was such a fan moment. They even found a way to make StarScream suck. What!? I'm not looking forward to seeing him ruin other classic characters. So help me, if he ruins Soundwave in one of these flix........ I absolutely hate his fast, actiony-camara work with Transformers. As a huge fan of Transformers, I actually wanted to see what they look like. But the camera was moving so damn fast all the time or too close, you couldn't get a good look.

I'm pretty excited about seeing it for similar reasons Jon posted.

To me, a movie can be very entertaining without being a great film. Does that make sense?

This movie was not a great movie by any means but if you just want to turn off your mind for a few hours and watch some cool explosions, cgi, and hot women, go for it.

Not that I would consider the original Transformer series wholesome, but there is a palpable naivete about the animated series of the 80's. After reading the countless and ruthless reviews of this sequel I realize my issue with the movie is less about it being really bad, which the first one is and apparently so is its follow-up, but that it has no connection to that which it came from. Its campy, funny, imaginative and didn't take itself so seriously. Don't believe me?

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wJ16d-qpBEE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wJ16d-qpBEE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I could see what was going on, I found the story ten times more digestible than the Michael Bay joint and it was about the frickin' Transformers. Humans don't even show up until 15 minutes in, perfect. The cartoon had spunk, the Bay movie (really, any Bay movie) is just rotten. But to each their own, I suppose I will watch this one day when it can be streamed through my 360 over netflix, while I am doing something else and still hate every minute of it.

I also just saw the trailer for the The Last Airbender, don't even get me started on Shamalan....

You know, I think the thing is that I have successfully hidden away and protected my childhood love of the toys from the movie. There is no connection between the two in mind. Maybe that is why I can't hate or love the first one. It is just a random summer movie for me.

There is no way this thing can be worse than Pink Panther 2!! I had to gut that Turd out because of the kids.

Good or bad I am sure I will be seeing this just because the kids want to see it.

I liked the first one it was mindless entertainment. Sometimes that is o.k.

Maybe its just me but in the 1st Transformers movie when they are battling on the interstate you see Barricade (police car right?) but he never shows up in the streets during the final battle.

    Did I miss something there?

I might see the movie, though studying and sleeping officially occupy 85% of my day.

I'm in agreement with Crippler and LouDog, too. I love the original cartoon (thanks LouDog for the video), and I still own my 1987 Optimus Prime toy and the animated movie where Prime feels it better to absorb Megatron's attack right into the chest rather than sidestep it and live. It was about the robots, not a hot girl in a very small pair of shorts (not that I mind) with even smaller acting talent.

Unfortunately, it seems like Bay's need to contemporize the Transformers has resulted in taking away from what makes them interesting. Starscream's numerous attempts to stab Megatron in the back. Devastator looking like a big robot instead an evil drunken clown (or clem) on a unicycle. Megatron turning into a gun!!!! It's all flash with no substance. Let's have 30 explosions in this scene with a 3 second, low angle shot of Ravage's left shoulder.

There is one thing that puzzles me. In the first movie, we had about 10 transformers total. Somehow, Bay decided rather than increase the number by a few and give them back stories, he would dump at least 12 more robots on us and expect the non-fan boys to follow any of this? Plus, why does the Fallen look like there is a squid on his face?

Bring on the 360 streaming. Oh yeah, this movie might suck from what I've read/heard, but nothing will top the sucktacular movie that is GI Joe: Rise of Cobra

The song from the original animated Transformers: The Movie is the same song that Dirk Diggler records in the studio in Boogie Nights. Classic!

I'm seeing it on Friday. The first one was a mindless "HolyshitIcantbelievethatshitjustblewup" kind of flick, which is good every now and then. I just watched "The Hurt Locker", so I'm ready to turn my brain off for 2.5 hours.

A movie doesn't have to be a great movie, or even a good movie, to be enjoyable. I've avoided reading reviews, just because I know what to expect from this movie. If you compare it to "serious films", yeah, it probably sucks. But it's a popcorn-tastic, summer movie. As long as they don't kill off the only ethnic Autobot, again, I should enjoy it as much as I can.

Also, **** Michael Bay. StarScream was my favorite character, and he ruined him. But, Megan Fox, mangled thumb and all, is still pretty when she's sweaty and shot all orangey.
