ParticipantAlright. My birthday is in FIVE DAYS. I’m trying to talk my wife into letting me get this, and I’m using my daughter as an excuse, claiming that this console is more kid friendly and that I want her to grow up experiencing Mario (true). I’ve also told her about the gamepad controller, which would allow me to play Mario while the little one watches Mickey and Pooh (true). I’m considering telling her that if I don’t get this something very bad might happen (untrue).
What other true and or untrue facts can I present to make my case?
I need this. Help.

ParticipantBackwards compatible with the Wii, doubles its library of games (fact).
Without a Wii U and its Virtual Console, you’ll need to resort to more expensive and/or not-so-legal ways to play older pre-Wii Nintendo games (fact).
Mario Kart 8 (fact).
Jagger has one (fact).
Other than mentioning the other obvious series you’ve already mentioned in your tags, that’s all I got at the moment.

ParticipantGreat points. Thanks. Mario Kart 8 is exciting.
I actually have the first three NES systems and a library of games, but you can’t play them on a big HD screen, so they sit in storage. The virtual console is a HUGE selling point for me.
Quick question, if I buy games like Mario Bros 3 or whatever on the virtual console, do they mirror on the gamepad and let me play them there? That would be really cool.

ParticipantOh. Also, a new Smash Bros is coming!

To the best of my knowledge they do, as long as they were bought on the Wii U.
If they were bought on a Wii and transferred to the Wii U, then you’d need to upgrade it to the Wii U version (for like a buck).
Oh. Also, a new Smash Bros is coming!
Another fact! Can’t believe I forgot that one.
Hyrule Warriors is another releasing in the near future that looks to be some good old hacking and slashing fun. Think Dynasty Warriors meets Legend of Zelda.
And speaking of Zelda, if you haven’t already seen the trailer for the new Wii U Zelda, you should check it out. Can’t wait.

ParticipantYou mean Hyrule Warriors? I haven’t seen a trailer, but I saw it was coming and didn’t get what it was about. I’ll give it a watch.
So what are your thoughts on Wind Waker? I consider myself a Zelda fan, but honestly I’ve only played Link to the Past (a million times) and I never was interested in the 3D games. Should I get it?
I feel like I need to take the plunge and try it.

ParticipantSomehow that reminded me about Donkey Kong 64, one of my all time favorites. I’m really sad that it’s not on the VC just because it’s a RARE game (I guess). What made me think of it is that I never cared to play the 3D Zelda games, but they look kind-of similar to DK64 in gameplay.

I can see how that’s a bit confusing, sorry. Hyrule Warriors (trailer) and the new Wii U Zelda (teaser/trailer) are two different games.
So what are your thoughts on Wind Waker?
I have not played the Wii U version yet, but I played and enjoyed the GameCube version. I prefer the Twilight Princess style of visuals, but it’s still a Zelda game and I can’t think of a Zelda game I haven’t enjoyed.

Sounds like the Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle is your best bet – comes with a code to download the game. Might be harder to find with the Mario Kart 8 bundles out there now though.

It’s more like the SNES games, and I’ve not played it myself yet, but I’ve heard good things about Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (trailer).

ParticipantI got it!
I ended up getting the Mario and Luigi bundle because I couldn’t find the Mario Kart bundle and I didn’t want the custom Zelda stuff.
I also bought DuckTales, Super Metroid, and Link to the Past. My 2 year old daughter fell in love with the DuckTales theme song and now she just wants to watch me play that game, so that’s pretty cool.
I have so many games I want to play. Jagger, have you tried Lego City Undercover? I want a good Lego game and it looks fun. Lego Movie also looks good.

Woo! Happy Belated Birthday, by the way!

The New Super Mario Bros. games are good fun. Multiplayer can be a little frustrating at times, what with everyone bumping into and jumping off of each other, but it’s still fun.
and I didn’t want the custom Zelda stuff.
Oh, yeah. Totally know what you mean. *hides his Zelda themed Wii U gamepad and 3DS* XD
Jagger, have you tried Lego City Undercover?
Sadly I have not. My Lego game backlog is quite long.. I’m not even sure I ever got around to finishing Lego Star Wars.
Lego Movie also looks good.
I don’t know about the game, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie itself.
