OG Xbox games come to XBLA

Big news incoming from Microsoft today: the next update to the Xbox 360's firmware will offer the opportunity to download games for the original Xbox hardware, from fan favorites to cult classics alike.

Beginning December 4, the "Xbox Originals" feature will offer a catalog of last generation's best titles, starting with Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies, and Fable.

Games will cost 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15, each.

Microsoft also said that in celebration of Xbox Live's 5th anniversary, all Xbox Live members will get one free Arcade game download on November 15. Gamers who have been with the service since its launch in 2002 will get 500 free Microsoft Points.

i would assume achievements are to be expected, if they didnt then they dropped the ball and wont sell as well i dont think

im also curious as to how big these games will be, i would guess pretty big, like 5gb at least is my guess, makes my 20gb hdd cry, but i will tell it "if it was worth owning, i would have the disc my sweet innocent little xbox, theres no reason to make you play such low-end rubbish, i love you to much" then i might give it a hug and we will start working on a few 'xbox portables'

Interesting... if they are giving out achievement points for BC games that are downloaded, will they also be giving them out if you play the game from a disc? All of the above titles were already BC, and some of them I would go through again. I really, really enjoyed Crimson Skies. I was actually hoping they'd do another one for 360... that would be a great game, especially if they beefed it up a bit to make it even more like Burnout Revenge in airplanes...

I have gotten quite a few questions about yesterday’s Xbox Originals announcement. Specifically, folks want to know if these games will have additional functionality like Achievements and Gamer score. The answer is no. These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release. I hope that clears that up.

Oh well. Too many games are really good right now to go back and play old ones anyway.

what a waste, they could have made a good chunk of money off of all the achievement whores in the world, i doubt they sell much of this...

Maybe they should rethink the idea. They are sitting on real cash and really cut loses with achievements and gamerscore. This could make up loses by adding an internal HD-DVD to the 360 and loses of reselling used game cause by Gamestop and other online sites. Also, they could introduce a better price drop. Then again, Mircosoft tend to deny things before something major happens.

I could care less about achievement points, I'll be buying a few of these games. Downloading on December 4th: Psychonauts and Fable.

Most of my OG games were stolen, so I'll probably pick up Psychonauts on the 4th just to play it again.

I got rid of my XBOX before the 360 was released. It dawned on me last night that I still had the Psychonauts disc (thanks for the reminder, BMC). I'll wait for a review or two before I buy it to see if the audio glitches while playing the disc on the 360 are still intact in the Arcade version. I will be buying Fable for sure.
