MS acknowledges early 360 problems.

Man this came out of nowhere. Read this:

Microsoft issued a statement today acknowledging that its early run of Xbox 360s made in 2005 were buggy and that it would rescind any repair fee on boxes that need service as long as they were manufactured before Jan. 1, 2006. The statement is in response to a raft of complaints from gamers such as Chris Szarek, whose story we told on this blog about how he went through four consoles in the repair process. Szarek said today that this validates concerns that he and others had about the quality of the launch consoles. Those who paid repair fees already will get refunds.


Here's Microsoft's statement:
As part of our standard and ongoing process of analyzing repair data, we recently noticed a higher than usual number of units coming in for repair. Upon further investigation, it was further discovered that the bulk of the units were isolated to a group that was part of the initial manufacturing run of the console. Returns for repair are coming in for a variety reasons and it's a higher rate than we are satisfied with. We've made the decision to comp repairs for consoles manufactured before January 1, 2006, and provide refunds to the small group of customers who have already paid for repairs.

I have also read that 360's made before Jan 06 will have the warrenty extended for a yr. That I think still needs some more confirmation.

Yeah, but since they have acknowledged that they had a manufacturing issue and their QC was faulty, are they going to refund the money I spent on their extended warranty? The only reason that I bought the warranty was to cover my backside because of p_ss poor QC on their part.

That is goooooood news. My box has been acting funky, and it's good to know that they'll fix it for free. I wonder how long they will fix it for free.

Glad to see a company standing behind their product. I am still on my original box bought in Nov. 05. So far so good. Of course now I am probably screwed.

I emailed the guy who bought my launch 360 to make him aware of this news(Thanks Crip!). I havent heard from him since May(he gets busy in the summer like I do, otherwise he attends lands parties) and he replied a couple of minutes ago saying its working fine(he lent it to his younger brother for the summer so it was tortured for sure) and thanked me for the heads up.

guess what I decided to do... turn on my xbox 360 just a few minutes ago.

And........... freeze on the xbox splash screen. turn off the sytem... turn it back on... freezes again on the xbox splash screen. turn of the system... turn it back on.... 3 FREAKIN RED LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
