Just curious is 11Mbps (according to the box) enough for good online gaming? What about hosting?
I know the comcast connection direct would be well more than adequate but I'm going to share the bill with my buddy and use wifi only.

Before, the speed of broadband was the weakest link (2-3mb/s) and the routers were at 11 (which highly depend on the signal, I'd say 5-6?). Now, if your internet is 6 and your router is 5, you might not be getting the best that you could. Who knows though... I'm just making educated guesses, I've never really compared the two.
With any router, it's best to put you 360 in the DMZ, which should get your NAT setting to "Open." Look for the "NAT Settings" thread for info on how to do it.

| Another thing to take into consideration, now with the new dashboard update, is streaming video.
Try it out w/ the b router, but if it can't handle the streaming vid (from your pc to your 360) you might want to bump up to the G model...
Although - I'm not even sure if the G's can handle the bitrate for good 720p streaming vid... anyone know??

So I think I'll just tell him to toss the B and use the G. Then I will not have to worry about it ever.

There is ALSO the new wireless N - 802.11n - which I believe is still in draft form, but is still included in some of the newer routers out there - it is supposed to do speeds up to 12x faster than G!
Question is - will they release an N adapter for 360 when it finally is ready...

Granted, streaming from PC to Xbox falls in this category, but online play does. Yeah MadB, A is the balls for streaming. I think they should give away A routers with Media Center PCs.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Nazareth, PA Age: 35 | I have a 20 Mb internet connection and my wireless G router can't push the full bandwidth to my PC. I only get 17 Mb of the 20 Mb. Granted the signal is going through a wall and the PC is about 20 ft from the router as well. My mother has 10 Mb internet and can only get 7 Mb out of her B network. This is with encryption enabled also which adds overhead. This will all effect download speeds. Now hosting is all about upload. That will all come down to your ISP. No ISP is approaching the limits of even a B network. My upload is now 2 Mb so hosting matches has become much better. 16 player GRAW matches are now an option.
