I really like long titles apparently. In any case, here's the place we can talk about the game in whole without spoiler tags. Forgive the me for the title.

I really like the ending. Now, in contrast to DLitch, I didn't enjoy the end game cinematic. Or rather, I liked what I saw and I just wanted them to wrap up more. For example, there's a lot of talk about not being able to revert back from being a Big Daddy, but we don't get to see that resolved. And the Tennenbaum (Spooky Kraut). What happens to her? She seems worth saving.

In regards to the "one way street" of being a Big Daddy, I think that the main character didn't really become a true BD. I heard a tape where the BDs actually have their organs cut out and their entire body is grafted into the suit. I think the main character just stepped inside like regular clothes and thus only had to deal with the smell and the fact that his vocal chords will never be the same. Thoughts?

I have a lot more theories/ questions/ conjectures/ etc... but that'll start the ball rollin'. There's a lot here. Let's dig in. Eventually, I think we should try to put together a chronology of everything that went down in Rapture.

Final thoughts, one heck of a ride. And some excellent interpretations and manipulations of the FPS genre. I'll never look at Cortana the same ("Would you kindly find the key to the Installation now?")


By the way, should there be a good ending thread and an evil ending thread? I think so far all of us got the good ending. I suppose if that becomes necessary we can just re-title the thread.

I also wondered what happened to Tannenbaum, I really liked her character and would have loved for it to shed some more light on her. When you wake up in the Little Sister hang-out, I found myself really wanting to see if she was Spliced-up or not.

The reason why I liked the end-cinematic is because it gave a lot of closure on why you saved the little sisters. I thought that the CGI was fantastic, and it was a nice wrap-up on the story-line.

I'm starting my second playthrough tonight and I'll be harvesting the Little Sisters and seeing how that affects the ending.

I donno the evil ending didnt wrap anything up either im on my way to finding the good ending ive saved about half of the lil sisters so far and im almost to ryan so ill have the game beat again in no time.

what did you guys think about the boss battle i thought it was kinda cool how he went through all of the stages and had different weaknesses at different times

To me it seems like this story is given to you a bit too slowly and left way too open ended the mind control tho made perfect sense and could fit into any game because you have to do it to get through the game so it seems just like mind control.

I thought I was going to have to fight Ryan I'm surprised that he died willingly, before that part I completely hated his character but after I had respect for him and understood why he did what he had done.

I had my suspicions that the Ryan fight wouldn't be a real fight and that we would have to fight Atlas (ask Dlitch, I even asked him to speculate as well). The Atlas as Fontaine twist did surprise as did the mind control. I love the mind control twist. It's such a great use of the FPS narrative style where someone is always telling you what do and you just have to do it. I did however recognize that something was slightly amiss when Atlas was having me do strange things like saving his family without giving me sufficient justification. I just thought it was poor storytelling. Not "Would you kindly".

I actually thought the pacing of the storytelling was pretty good. Much faster than other games where you have to uncover the story by scanning terminals and such. I've never gotten a good idea of what's happened in a Metroid game.

Here's my best start for a rough chronology. There's probably a better one out on the internets now, but this is mine:

• Ryan builds Rapture and fills it with the best artists and scientists he can find.
• Fontaine begins smuggling in contraband
• A man's hand is miraculously cured by a sea slug
• Tennenbaum researches the sea slug and discovers ADAM and EVE
• Tennenbaum goes to Fontaine to get the materials she needs
• Fontaine begins production of ADAM
• Ryan responds by putting his scientists to work on creating plasmids
• People begin to see that Fontaine is amassing large amounts of power and beg Ryan to intervene. Ryan refuses because he won't allow government intervention. It is at this point that Rapture is beginning to deteriorate.
• Fontaine, Suchong and Tennenbaum work on creating a child that they can have total control over. The child has his growth accelerated using plasmids/ADAM in case Ryan ever makes a move on him.
• Fontaine realizes that a fight is inevitable between him and Ryan and does two things:
  • Creates the character of Atlas to drum up additional displeasure with Ryan
  • Sends you, as a baby (2 years old, but with the body of a 19 year old), to the surface world in a submarine so that Ryan won't be able to get to you
• Ryan finally makes his move against Fontaine because Rapture is seriously going down the tubes. Fontaine's splicers duel it out Ryan's security bots and gunmen. Fontaine is supposedly shot dead here.
• Fontaine escapes somehow and assumes the role of Atlas fulltime.
• Ryan takes over ADAM production and begins creating the little sisters and Big Daddies with Suchong.
• Atlas sends out a message and calls you, the main character, back to Rapture.
• Here is where the game starts.

What do you guys think of that chronology? Does it have everything right? That's the main arc, but I don't have the subplots of the women worked out. I seem to remember 2 women, one who gets badly scarred and goes to the plastic surgeon and one who is a stripper/actress who gets pregnant. But I'm not really sure on their arcs. Any help?

I dont really remember many of the side arcs. Didn't Tennenbaum help create little sisters? Also I wish I could find out what It said on the gift in the beginning.

Yeah, I think she took lead on the Lil's and Suchong developed the BDs. I'm curious about the women because I think one is the main character's mother, the one whose corpse you find in the XXX room in Fort Frolic.

Yea I think you are right because before you go into that room in the strip club you see a picture of your 'family' and it focuses on the mother. I think that may be why Ryan killed her.

Looks good! I don't know what was up with the XXX lady though. That scene was about all I heard about her.

When escorting the LS as a BD, did you let any of them die? I saved it at each body, to keep her alive. I didn't get anything special though.

I also really liked the boss battle. It played on the weakness aspect, which was cool.

I need help getting into one particular area. It's in the Poseidon Plaza area of Fort Frolic (the one that has a frozen entrance). On the first floor toward the back, there's a sign that says "More Items in the Basement" and indeed you can see stairs leading down to a basement, but they're covered with some kind of grating. I can't figure out a way to get down there. Any help?


So there are a few women in the game:
- Diane McClintock: This was a woman in love with Ryan, but was shot in the New Year's revolt. She went to the plastic surgeon
- Jolene Something: This is the XXX woman, and she get's pregnant with Ryan's child and Suchong takes the egg for his experiences. I believe she's your mother and Ryan is actually your father.

And as for saving that last Lil as you escorted her through the gambit, you have to keep her alive for her to open all the doors for you. I don't think you get anything else for it.

The Last little sisters you don't have to save. It was kinda hard to keep them all alive on medium but if they die you just have to go over to the sister hole and get a new one.

As for the grate as far as I know there is no way of opening it if there is no switch.

Have any of you gotten the secret achievement of "Enter Cohens Secret Room" I know that his house isnt in fort frolic and that its in somthing plaza and I have gone into his house and have not gotten the achievment, but there is a bedroom or somthing that the door wont open does anyone know how to open that door.

Can you be a bit more specific as to where it is? It's in Apollo Plaza? I'd like to get that achievement.

Mercury Plaza is where Cohen lives. You can only get the achievement if you DON'T kill him. There is also an achievement for photographing his body after you kill(he is in the apartment if you don't kill him in Ft. Frolic, you can kill him at his house).

Yes, I had to look up the secret achievements to figure that out. When I was in Apollo plaze, I was going up the stairs and looked over the edge. I saw a couple walking away. This was also the couple that was dancing in one of the rooms. It may have been a flashback or something, but I swear it was Cohen's place. However, I killed that fool right after finishing his artwork, because I wanted his key.
