Madden '08

All the talk this year from EA is how responsive this years Madden will be. This is great news considering that the Next Gen Madden tittles have been very disappointing in my opinion. However, where is the commentary?! This is Next Gen, not Sega Genesis. This radio broadcast announcer is terrible! I thought this would just be in the '06 version on the 360 because of time restraints, but no, even in '07 and now '08? Are you kidding me? This kind of ruins the game for me. I know it's not a huge deal, but I loved the commentary (Play by Play and Color) and felt it added so much to the overall presentation of the game, and now it's gone? Where did it go, and will they ever bring it back?

Honestly, I do think it's a big deal. Hearing Corso and Herbstreit go crazy over a play in College Football makes it 10 times more exciting to me, even if I've heard the same thing 15 times.

It's an underrated part of sports gaming. I always loved the 2k games for that reason. They had the most dynamic announcing of any football game ever made.

Madden needs good announcing. They've got ESPN on their side, so there's really no excuse not to include it.

Exactly. If you have ESPN and the NFL, you need to use it to the fullest. As long as it isn't Bryant Gumble!!!!!

I wouldn't mind a spanish football announcer commentating American football.

Actually Bryant Gumble started out in sports broadcasting. I didn't think he was that bad. His problem is he doesn't use everyday language of the common man. Guys don't want to look up words to understand his comments. He did have nice imagary if you understood him.

I can just hear it in the Paul Mooney voice.

When he did some of the Thursday night games, he was a pompous ass. He would push whatever he wanted to talk about, and would go back to it if the other guy didn't stay on that topic. Also, he said a few things that were just wrong. I felt like I was playing a video game, and the commentary glitched and didn't match what was going on.

ANYWHO, I am cautiously looking forward to Madden.

Yeah, Gumbel is just hard to listen to. It's not just a vocabulary thing either... he's totally condescending. I mean, Dennis Miller has a great vocabulary. I thought he was a riot on MNF, just not really a great fit.

An example of someone who had a vocabulary that he was too proud of is Todd Christensen... ugh, that guy might actually use the word "matriculate" in a sportscast and be totally serious...
