Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Nazareth, PA Age: 35 | Issues with media sharing since May 07 update? Ok, once again. I had a hell of a time getting my 360 to connect to my media server software running on XP. This happened with last yr's spring update and it didn't work for me again until the Fall update. (WMP11 would not work, but TVersity did.) I disconnected the PC from the System blade, etc. Nothing would get the 360 to connect to the Zune Media server. (Which worked BEFORE the update just fine.) Just before I totally lost it, I decided to change the name of the media's account name in the Zune software. Shazam!!! The 360 was then able to find the server software! Great. Hopefully, this will play nice and connect every time. I better not have to run around the house changing the name of the shared media account every time I want to connect. That is BS. We shouldn't have to jump though hoops or reinvent the wheel to get this shit working after every update. I'll post up some updates to this thread on how the sharing is going since the name change.
So, if anyone else is having problems media sharing after the update. Try changing the account name of the media server you are trying to connect to.

I had no issues before the spring update. Now this. The Xbox.com forums are flooded with the same issue I'm having. Come on.

| That's odd. I've not noticed that with mine. Although I do recall people making similar observations during the beta... but those were really early on. I wonder if its a caching thing? | |

Now, any 'normal' PC user is not gonna get this. I started checking the event viewer and noticed that the Zune Media server was not able to create a network share, some error that I had corrupted DRM content and make sure I can play it crap. So, I would fire up the Zune software, log in, and play something. Ok. I would then restart the Zune sharing service. No error in the log. It was able to start the network share. But every time I would reboot and check that event log, the service would throw the error during start up and not create the share. When you view the running services, it is running. But no share was actually created. This you would not know unless you checked the event log. How many here actually know how to even find the event log? Show of hands. So, it seemed as though the service was trying to check a DRM license and could not do it. Here's the good part. I went into the Services and checked the Zune Network Sharing Service. Double click it. Now check the Log On tab. That's right, CHANGE the setting from "This Account" (some NT shit and password stuff) to the "Local System Account". Shazam! Blam-o! Now, the service no longer gets that corrupted DRM error at start up and creates the network share. So, long story short. My media sharing now works fine. Who in the hell is gonna figure that out? Better question, WHY in the hell did I have to even mess with that service setting? Hopefully, at least one person can benefit here from my madness with this. Try this fix.

It takes longer for the video to start now, but at least it works. Until such time as MS enables divx playback, this program does a good job. I was also able to watch browse youtube videos and watch them. It looked like it had support for webcams and PC tv tuners to stream video also. I don't have a tv tuner or webcam for my laptop, so I didn't mess with that stuff.
