The gauntlet has been thrown down: which FPS style reigns supreme? Mouse and keyboard or console controller. With Shadowrun, coming from MS Studios in June 2007 we will get to settle the debate once and for all. This new FPS will support PC/360 multi-player and immerse us all in a future universe full of magic and techno-punk combat.
Based on the popular PnP (Pen and Paper) RPG Shadowrun, this game will take elements of that deeply rich universe to create this new FPS experience. Check out the
Wiki page on Shadowrun or the
Official Game Site for more info.
I was introduced to the game through an article in Game Informer. After investigating a bit, I found the official site and registered to become a Beta tester. I have yet to be picked, but in the meantime I began to familiarize myself with the source/inspiration material and it is pretty awesome.
While there are complaints that the FPS doesn't hold true to the Shadowrun universe's mythology, the developers have given good reasons in the
Forums for the changes, citing things like "ease of use" and "conducive to play as an FPS". Regardless, I am hopeful that if the FPS does well, we will see more incarnations of this franchise. From what I have read, both in books and on the site, it looks like there is a very complex world to be translated into the next generation of gaming, and give NooBs like myself an opportunity to get in on the action.
