You take on the role of Command Shephard, otherwise known as a specter. As the only human specter, Shephard must defend and protect humans from the world's biggest threats, one of which has just surfaced. The universe of Mass Effect pits you against a pending swarm of genocidal machines. In the past, your galaxy was populated and thriving, until it was wiped out by hordes of the crazed mechanical enemies. With another crippling invasion of the verge of wiping everyone out once again, it's up to you to discover the truth of the situation, and how to rectify it.

The high level of character facial animation is so convincing and unlike any other game we've seen that, at some level, I just want to watch the characters talk. And talk and talk.

Mass Effect is easily one of the best-looking and most promising games of X06. In fact, it's easy to say now that Mass Effect is one of the most impressive looking next-gen games on the planet. It's that far ahead of everything else. It's BioWare's attention to detail on so many fronts that is so awe inspiring. The character animation in top-notch, and the scale and scope of galaxies you explore is mind-boggling. You can travel to planets, moons, even derelict space stations and explore. An obscure, out of-the-way space station might be empty and void of anything valuable. Or it might have life forms on it revealing tidbits of story, weapons, or mini-missions. Or it could be the key to the main narrative you were looking for. The combat looks fluid enough, and the combination of interactive environments and character specialization combined indicate just how ambitious a project Mass Effect is.
| I really can't wait for this game. | |

| Looks like they have changed a few minor things since E3. We got a close up and personal look at this one while we were there and I must say this one is a definitely purchase for me. I did a write up on it. I'll try to find it and post it here for my impressions.
I was incredibly impressed with the game back then. Awesome how much they've been able to improve in the short months' since E3. It was awesome then and it is even more so now. I can't wait to play it all the way thru. The character dynamics were shaping up to be awesome. The speech interacter was incredibly dynamic and very fluid. It all had a very cinematic feel to it. Hard to explain but awesome! I can't wait!

| When is this supposed to be released? Amazon doesn't have a release date listed yet.

No rush, let them polish it up so we get a masterpiece. And Yes, Peench drooled over it, he typed many a good thing after E3.
And to think, this is the 1st of 3 we will be getting Imagine what they will be able to do with the graphics as they dig deeper!
If they release it in 2007, and it takes them another 2 to 3 years to release the 2nd one, we could see the 3rd on the xbox 720 using Unreal engine 4!(which Mark Rein said has been underway for sometime now, getting ready for the new systems in 5 years).

| I'm more interested with each screen I see of this game. As long as it's not like KOTOR I think I'll be all over this one. Real time combat is the way to go. | | |

| I liked KOTOR!! Of course, I liked Warlords back on the PC in the old days too!
But no, it is not like KOTOR in its fighting system. It is all real time - with one exception. You can pause the action and get your strategy on by sending your backup team to different parts of the action - like to flank people or lay down cover fire or whatnot. Then when you unpause it goes back to real time fighting.
I can't wait for this one!
