I've played it for one evening, and if you've liked any of the other hunting type games, this one is on par with those.
Nothing ground-breaking or eye-popping, but a decent game for $40 bones. Just wondering if there are any other virtual hunters on PGL. There aren't many posts on any of the Games forums about this game, so getting tips or info on things is going pretty slow.

Im actually putting together a real hunt in Alaska when I can get the 6 grand together. For now, the game will have to do

It's pretty fun, if you've never played a hunting game, definitely rent first. They are SLOW compared to most games...similar to hunting.
Spoon, where/what are you going to hunt for that's ONLY $6K. Every good hunt I've been interested in (pronghorn in Arizona *cough, cough*) start around $5K - $7K and go up from there. Heck, even exotics here in Texas start at around $3K.

Also, some things in the game are a bit frustrating. In the first "Adventures" you don't have a knife or handgun, so when wolfs and lions attack, you have to try and get them with your rifle which can be tricky. And the dog sled stuff is just plain tedious.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Left Coast | I saw this game in a recent catalog that they sent me...I have been boycotting them for the summer because they jacked my up hard on a fishing rod order. It hasn’t been easy, but I think the tactic may be working because I have been getting things in the mail to try to get me spending money again….
They are opening a new store in Reno that I may swing by next time I am in Tahoe....talk about a kid in candy store!! And other than this isolated incident they have some of the best customer service around...and I am already eyeballing their ultra high lumen HID flashlights.... Quote: |
This isn't a flashlight. It's a Personal Search Light™ with high-intensity discharge (HID) capable of disorienting an intruder or adversary.

Why do I always have a compulsive desire to go completely overboard with anything that I do....I showed the ad to my lady when she asked what I wanted for my bday and she just rolled her eyes....
Everytime I read that "book" that they send me I see 20 toys that I can't live without!!

It was a bathroom in a house with the door slightly open and obviously some guy on the toilet (feet/legs showing). They stand up (feet legs out of shot), toilet flushes, and the Cabela's catalog is then thrown on the floor for the next "reader." Beauty!
Anyhow, I've always had good luck with their mail order, and have gone to their store in Buda, TX several times. It's amazing, whether you're a hunter or not! It's like a museum of animals! Home Depot? HA! My temple is Cabela's! Even if their video games are always a bit chincy!

I liked the stand in Dangerous Hunts, lol. When Id start getting creeped out, Id launch the stand and Id be out harms way.
I dont recommend the game unless you play it as you'd hunt. Its slow going but I like it that way. That way when something does happen, your adrenaline skyrockets.
I got rushed by a rhino that ran from a thicket. I literally threw my controller forwards and ran out the room, hahaha. Doom III and Condemned are the only other games that made me shat myself.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Ohio | Its like hunting. You can walk for a day and not see anything sometimes. Its realistic. You have to track animals at times and walk around for an hour without seeing anything(its happened to me b4 in previous cabelas games).
Tt can be *slow paced*, like most hunting. If youre not into hunting, stay far away. Id be leary of even recommending a rental unless it doesnt cost you anything.

Why would I look negatively upon that? Youre a better man than I if you stick with bows. I had a nice PSE compound and kick ass Horton(?)crossbow, I sucked with the compound I think it was Horton, this is taking me back to maybe '91 or '92.
I popped a scope on the crossbow and while sighting it in, I shot an arrow into the back of the other. I still have them and when I get a new camera, I'll take a pic! It got expensive though, fletching being ripped off arrows once they go thru hay bails. I didnt want to invest in a backstop, but looking back I should have, I wouldnt have gone thru arrows every couple of days.
