Battlefield 1943 coming to XBLA and PSN this Summer

Quote:
Electronic Arts studio DICE today confirmed that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is in development, as Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello revealed a few days ago. In addition, the company revealed the development of Battlefield 1943.

Unlike the first Bad Company, which was only released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Bad Company 2 will also get a PC release. DICE promises a "level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game."

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is not expected until early next year, but gamers will still get their Battlefield fix this year as Battlefield 1943 will be released this summer.

A presumably budget-priced release, Battlefield 1943 is a downloadable multiplayer-only title coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will feature 24 player action, three classic Battlefield locations--Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima--and uses the same Frostbite engine that powers Bad Company 2.

"Bad Company 2 takes everything that players liked in the original and ups the ante - more vehicles, more destruction and more team play," said Battlefield franchise executive producer Karl Magnus Troedsson. "Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology."

DICE is also working on the free-to-play Battlefield Heroes, which is expected by April
I loved BF1942, so I'll buy this in a heartbeat if the PGL Army flocks to it.

That Battlefield Heroes looks pretty cool. I'm up in the air on this one though. It'll depend on pricing and how many of my friends get it and how often they play.

Battlefield heros is ok but it is very bare bones compared to Battlefield 1942. The beta is fun though but it never managed to really draw me in.

I really enjoyed Battlefield: Bad Company, and am eagerly awaiting the sequal.

As for BF1943, I will definitely give it at the very least a demo download to see if it's my cup of tea. Fond memories of the original BF series tell me it will be.

I rarely buy arcade games, but being such a fan, I can't ignore this. Especially since it's not a normal arcade game; 24 players, Frostbite Engine, and one of the best WWII games. I'm all over it. Oh, and if anyone ever feels like some Bad Company, let me know.

Awesome! I was going to make a thread about BF:BC 2 but here it is!

Also, the BF:1943 sounds great. Only 3 maps though, so hopefully it's not over priced, but I will for sure get this!

Anyone hear anything about a release date for BF: Heroes? The FREE PC Multiplayer game? They have no info on the website what-so-ever.

You can see a lil video in the back ground for 1943 in this interview. Looks like they brought back the parachutes which is good.

I loved BF1942. I remember playing the demo for that during my first year at college. As for BF: BC 2? I hope they change the steering on the tanks, because that really sucked in the first one, in my opinion.

As long as they make a nice solid battle field game I am sure there wont be any reasons to worry, I just hope they dont include too many features from bad company, because there are definitely some classic elements of the game that I like better than what was in battle field bad company.

I loved Battlefield Bad Company so much, I think I'd buy a steaming pile of shit (as long as said shit is powered by the Frostbite engine) from DICE right now. Can't wait.

I know I'm in the minority about this, but I just love the element of destructable environments. It brought entirely new strategy to FPS games.

that is true, and I liked the destructible environments too but not enough to overlook some of the ways they tried to ruin one of my favorite games of all time.

By "ruin" did you mean "improve"?

The only thing I thought DICE did wrong in Bad Company was level design for multiplayer. Most of the maps were near linear, sure that creates a great choke point, but ruins the freedom from the previous titles. If they fix that, I'll be a happy camper, I mean sniper.

I'd agree with you on Gold Rush, but not on Conquest.

It wasn't too bad for Gold Rush, but the way Conquest was incorporated just didn't feel right. The maps felt to confined for Conquest, and on some maps they were even more so than their Gold Rush counterparts. Other than that, everything else was great. I loved the way it played, and definitely support environmental destruction, wish more games would use it.

Some maps were a little smaller, but I think needed to be since they didn't have much vehicle support. I know its a matter of preference, but I think they did a real good job of mixing the bigger maps with more vehicles and the smaller maps with less. Once again... totally a matter of preference, but I thought BF:BC was one of the best games I've ever played (I know I'm unique in that) and that is hard to say because I loved COD4 as well.

environmental destruction was great but it did seem like the maps were created for gold rush, kinda long and skinny. Also seems hard to see with the iron sights for some reason to me. I liked the submachine gun with the reddot scope on the old BF. I wish they would make it like BF2 but with the new destructible environments. I kinda like the old standard BF controls too. They also need to bring back choppers that can transport passengers and bring back parachutes for jumping out of choppers and off tall buildings.
