Why do people find slimmer console models to be worthy purchases. Is space really that limited in your entertainment stand/center?

I hate to point out the obvious, but unless they change the positioning of the HDD, you won't be able to get any "slimmer." 2.5" HDD are, well, 2.5" and are probably going to stay that way, or costs would go way up to cover a proprietary (and unique) HDD size. Consider this party pooped!

I know I am seriously crammed for space - what with my 46" HDTV, my La-Z-Boy chair in my living room, the current 360 is just way too bulky. If...only I had...2 more inches of space...

i dont understand the need for a slim xbox anyhow. the ps2 slim was a joke i thought, how much space did they really save with that thing by adding a top loading dvd drive.
