Hard Drive Transplant

Ok, I have been looking around and have decided that I want to try and Transplant a decent sized hard drive for use on my 360(Im thinking 160gb)

Now, Im not going to risk this on my original hard drive, Im am buying a 2nd hand xbox HD from ebay for this experiment as the prices have dropped to decent levels(£20 plus P+P), and 160 Gb HD is around £30. This gives me a price of around £50 for the whole project.

Now, I know the way to do it, but are there any problems that I may come accross doing this? Anyone here done this before with any degree of success or failure? Should I just give up this idea and wait til the 120gb Hard drive drops from its currently ridiculous price of £120.

Last I heard you can only swap with a wd bevs 20 or 120 hard drive. Please link if there is new info on how to do it with a non 360 sized hd.

FAQ:

Q. I get an error when I try to dump hddss.bin from a 120 gb HDD.
A. This version can't dump from an elite drive yet. You'll have to dump sectors 16-22 manually with a tool like winhex, save them as 'hddss.bin' and then continue like normal, with the hddhackr.

Q. Will this tool allow me to connect a 500 gb drive to my x360 ?
A. No. The information on sector 16 is signed and can't be changed. You can only use size where you have a valid signature for. In otherwords, if a bigger HDD comes out, you can use that signature.

See, I would but the last thing i got from the US was some T-shirts from Think-Geek, which I then got pounded with Import Duty AND freaking VAT on.

I know it could be sent as a gift and all that, but I honestly wouldn't trust most delivery companies to actually get the thing to me in working order.

any luck on your project? I just ordered a 120 bevs from new egg and I'm gonna put it on the arcade I just got. Now I'll have the new all white elite system!

I have the "white elite" but bought it all legit. $97 and change for a used 120 GB HDD at Game Stop, with my rebate card and after 8% sales tax. Not bad and better than dropping the cash on a new arcade and external HD. Whatevs.

Just an update. I got my drive the other day and messed around with it a little bit. After about 4 hours of trying to get this to work plus 2 more hours of reading everything is all good. I think now if I had to do it again it would take about 20 min tops. So if anyone has any questions or would like help with this let me know and maybe I can help you out.
