Ok here's my quick take of it after 1 quarter of play...

Presentation:

Definitely more polished; stadiums look fantastic especially on the field (grass and stadium detail). Player models look about the same I would say but their movements are more life-like especially the tackling. Collinsworth and Hammond (I believe) call the game and when a certain situation calls for it, they do this play analyzation/breakdown thing called "Backtrack" which kinda disects the previous play (what went well, what went wrong). Overall, much different but in a good way.

Features

Mostly what I noticed off the bat were lots of new pre-game features (playcalling style and difficulty which is tied into your Madden IQ just to name a few). In game- a new feature called "Rewind" which allows you to replay a play that maybe didn't go your way the first time.

Overall there so many new things (maybe too many) that I can go on and on about but definitely the best Madden yet. I picked up the CE and IMO definitely worth the price of admission.

Nice, getting my copy tonight. Can't wait. There are some issues with the game But the guys at EA are promising to fix as much as possible.

Hey Dolfan, I'm guessing you play using the Dolphins? If so we should play some games, i use the chiefs and they are rated low the the Fins are. Should make for some classics.

the local Gamestop sez the line starts at 10PM for the midnight launch....think i'll stroll in at 12:30 and get my copy. Wonder if there's anyone dressed up as Darth Vader and sleeping in a tent.....oh wait, wrong type of nerd....

Anyone starting a late night/weekend league? Finally after years of waiting the BROWNS are a competetive Madden team again!!!!

Tiburon has supposedly revamped everything because of that. Hopefully it works.

Yeah by now the major issues are well know, notably the lack of CPU sliders, and the way they have messed up the online league set up. However over at Operation Sports, the lead producer, lead designer of Madden 2010 , and the guy in charge of on line leagues are all listening to our complaints and suggestions, and they are going to try and patch every thing they can. Obviously they can't afford to take too much time away from the developement of Madden 2010 but this has me feeling good about Madden 09. We will most likely have to live with a few issues , but I don't think they will be game killers.

A lot of people got the game early and are enjoying it right out of the box pre-patch.

There should be a patch available as soon as you load up your game on the 12th.

PS: Once you have had some hands on time with the game, if you have any issues with bugs or glitches feel free to go to the OS Madden forums and post in the appropriate thread. Also please be adult about it, instead of slamming EA (like I always do) follow the protocol and explain your issue so it will either be addressed with a patch or fixed for Madden 2010. Ian , Phil, and company are going to spend the next few days reviewing that thread, then they will decide on the top issues and get to work on a patch.

UPDATE The first patch is now available for the PS3 and will be available for the 360 by the 14th.

There's a number of changes in this patch. Most would never be noticed by the average consumer but some were targeted at improving the experience as quickly as we could.

1. Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
2. Solved a very rare stability issue that occured when using a couple of playbooks.
3. Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
4. Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occured while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
5. Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occured at specific points of online games.
6. Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
7. Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
8. The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it's affect.

The way the league is set up is nothing like the NFL.
EXAMPLE: if you have a 32 team league you have the option to chose how many times you will play each team, the minimum is one time , that means each league member must play 31 games. There are no divisions either, no AFC west or NFC east. However a couple guys have come up with a great work around for this. It's a bit of work for the league Administrators but it's worth it so you can play a 17 week 16 game season just like the NFL.

I can post the info on how my league is doing it once they post it on our league web page.

Which version are you guys getting? I'm going to get the regular edition. The only thing that entices me about the CE is Madden 93 with updated rosters. I don't feel thats worth the extra $30.
