I see Purple!!!

Hmmm... was playing GTAIV last night, and decided to crank up the in game brightness and contrast a couple of notches. After playing for about 5 minutes, the in screen shadows, etc., started to show a purple hue???

WTF???

The screen started getting jittery, so I saved my game, and exited to the dashboard. The dashboard was showing the same symptoms. I shut off my NEWLY REFURBISHED 360, with about 8 hours on it, and turned it back on. I then played for an hour, with no issues.

Anyone else ever have their 360 do this to them? I have a feeling that this unit isn't going to last long!

You emphasized correctly. With my previous experience with refurbed units, I don't trust them one damn bit. Maybe they are better now. Maybe. My first lasted 14 days and my second I got rid of after 3 days because Bioshock froze ALL the time and I started seeing crazy colors in the Dash like you describe. Keep an eye on it. I don't regret trading in my refurb and buying a new unit at all. I needed out of the refurb loop before I got to 8 like Jon.

I think you got my old one. That's what it started doing a few days before Halo 3's release. I promptly exchanged it at BB for a new one.

That bites Grenic. Trade that sucker in and get a new one with an in-store warranty to get out of the refurb loop like Crip said. I did it too and I'm glad I did.

Yeah... mine was doing that too. It did that once, and then two weeks later it did it again. Immediately after the second time, I got a bunch of snow and no picture. Suckity.

Trade that bastid in if you can find somebody who will give you decent credit on it. Break out of the cycle!

The only problems I have ever had from my launch system is the RRoD. Other than that I have had a great gaming experience on this console.

Thats pretty much what happened to my elite while playing gears in feb. I had a bunch of lines going across the screen. So I turned it off then back on and it would be cool for about 2 min then back to the gray lines. Like everyone else said get rid of that ASAP!

Before my first system failed I got a checkerboard effect so im sure the purple hue is a symtom of bad things to come.

I'm getting purple fuzzy's around the shadows in-game in GTA4, and my box has RROD'd twice in the past week. It bounces back immediately on reboot as of right now, but it looks as if this one's on a downward spiral.

Looks like within a few weeks I'll be swapping it out. Does anyone have any experience with swapping one out at Best Buy on their warranty program and them allowing you to upgrade to the Elite? I want to keep all the info on my HD, so I guess I better start saving critical game saves over to a memory card.
