Turning Point: Fall of Liberty

Since I was asked last night I thought I would write some quick thoughts about this game. I'll start with I have 2 hours in the SP and no MP at this point.

A quick background. This game basically is an alternate reality. What if instead of being injured Churchill was killed by the taxi in NY. The US didn't join the war but helped the resistance. Germany wins in Europe and Russia. Then in 1952 attacks the US in an all out assault on the east coast.

Game starts in NY with you being a construction worker.

Game Play: So far it has been a great game. The graphics are pretty good. Lots of fires, smoke and gun fire. It starts in the daylight but moves into the dark as your going along. It is a first person shooter unless your climbing, hanging or scaling something then it switches to 3rd person. So far no wacky camera angles. The buttons are all logical except I keep throwing grenades as it is the button above the trigger. You can sprint but not shoot while sprinting.

Weapons: Ok, this is where I'm the most happy with this game. I hate most WWII games because the weapons are very hard to use for some reason a lot of kick, etc. The weapons are very balanced in this game. The only weapon with a lot of kick is the tommy gun. The sniper riffles are very cool. You click on the laser detection and you can see the other snipers that are zoomed in. Then you can zoom in and take then out. Of coarse this means that the other snipers can see you now. Over all I'm very happy with the guns with my favorite being the sniper and .45 cal rifle.

Blowing up tanks is a little weird as you have to connect the explosive, connect 3 wires and then arm it and run.

Thoughts: I'm glad I bought the game so far it is a lot of fun. I think it is worth at least a rental if you are even a little interested.

I played the demo and liked it. I didn't see any reason for all of the internet hatred it seemed to draw. I will definitely play this at some point!

The demo is on my OXM disc but crashes when I tried to play it. I have the demo d/l though and will have to give it a try this evening. I have DMC4 on the way to me now but I might have to get this one next.

I played the demo and was very impressed with the idea, but to be honest I kept thinking "how great would this have been if it had more polish or done by a bigger studio" Did you play the demo and how does it compare to the final version. I really like the "What if" storyline but found the demo lacking

The demo was the first level in the game. I'm 5-6 levels in now and I would say it has gotten better. I would say COD3 maybe more polished as a WWII game but this one seems to play better. I'm most likely not the best judge of games because I have liked other less popuar games as well. The levels seem well put together but move you down a path. It is not a free roam world. Things seem a little crisper overall then the demo. However, I thought the demo was pretty good as well.

I'll add one negitive some times it takes a long while to get to a check point, so if you die it can be a lot of ground to cover. I'm playing the second hardest mode and have only died a couple times. One additional "cool" thing is you can see your stats at any time. It looks like you end up taking on 100-200 Nazi's during any one level.

I'm not going out on a limb and say it is a must buy or even a buy. I'm enjoying it though.
