Question about Live subscription

My cousin just stopped by(almost midnite) for 2 reasons. To see if I had Gears and to ask a question about Live.

I couldnt answer the Live question with confidence and he said he checked FAQ's at xbox.com and found no solid info, maybe some of you will know the answer....

His Gold sub is up in 2 weeks. He doesnt want to pay the full 50.00 right now so he will have more money for games for the immediate future.

**Can he pay the 7.00 now(don't know exact amount, he told me it was 7 something)...and when his year is up, MS won't charge him the full 50.00 and see he paid the 7.00 and it'll stay active?

He says he will stick with Gold but would rather pay 7.00 now and be able to buy another game along with CoD 3(he's reluctant on Gears, I wish I had it here to show him! that would change his mind!) I may just lend him the money and be done with it.

Thanks for any info, and if you don't know for sure, Please mention that in a response. I don't want to put him in a situation where he gets into money trouble.

I am not 100% sure on this either but I think he would have to specify in account management that he wants to change to monthly instead of yearly. Again I am not completely sure on this so maybe someone else can clarify.

Yes, tell him to go into membership options and change the renewal terms. There should be 3 options to chose from. I was just messing with all of that trying to fix my DL issue.

Also he should get a confirmation email telling him what term he will be renewing for.

He would just click on the *Monthly* one and they wouldn't auto-charge his card on the 17th? Let me know if thats correct.

By paying monthly over 12 months the extra money would almost cover a new game. That's almost $96 a year at $7.99 a month compare d to $49 for the 12 months. Even the 3 month deal seems outrageous. MS really needs to lower the price of the Live service. I should have never used that one free month that came with the XBL camera. I could have saved it for something like this to give to someone.
Does the HD DVD drive come with a free month of XBL? If so I definitely won't use those codes and I will save them. I have two years left on my XBL membership so I really don't need any more.
