I know a lot of people complained about the first sports games, King Kong and Call of duty 2 that the points where unbalanced or just insane… I’m seeing more and more games come out that maybe a little more balanced from a single player / multiplayer point of view… However, they keep getting more and more insane for the average player. Lets take NFS:Carbon when I played the game for 4 hours on Saturday including taking over an entire territory and didn’t even get 5 points for it. I need to get 500,000 drift points I get 10 points, etc… I don’t know I think that the gamer point hoes are ruining gamer points for the average gamer because they keep making them almost unachievable so that they can make it tough for these guys. Maybe it is just me… What are your thoughts?

| I think some games go too far to the other side. I don't think it's necessarily fair to put so much weight on certain aspects like online achievements.
Some are near impossible with very little pay off. One of the few exceptions that took forever to get but that I truly appreciated when I finally got, was 1,000,000 points without dying on Geometry Wars.

| | On the Dance Floor | Agreed They should take into consideration when they make the achievement points so increasingly difficult just whom they're pleasing. Don't a ton of these people end up finding a way to cheat the system anyway to get their point fix? Example from http://www.achieve360points.com: "5. Thug (10)- Reach a TrueSkill rank of Thug in any multiplayer mode.
Use the Kingpin Glitch. Gather 6 of your buddies from Xbox Live and make a lobby for Gangsta Brawl. Then start the game and after 10 seconds or the first kill have your entire team quit except for you. Finish the game Win/lose it doesn't matter just finish the match and your Trueskill Rank will shoot up. This is how it should work.
Game: 1 lvl 1 to lvl 17
Game: 2 lvl 17 to lvl 21
Game: 3 lvl 31 to lvl 27
Game: 4 lvl 27 to lvl 29
Game: 5 lvl 29 to lvl 35
End result is 5 games that give you kingpin and all the other ranking achievements.
Thanks to nGs l Ace o4 for the Glitch."
When you start jonesing for point this badly, they should take the controls away from you.
Just my opinion. | |

Any who, I do know that the achievement for XBox Live are one of the biggest priorities right now in gaming; how to distribute, etc.

| I think there should be a line. Half of the points should be for casual players(easy) and half for h4rdc0r3(insane) players.
GS points are just there to enlarge peoples eDicks, they don't matter. But, people who get 1000 points in an insanely difficult game should be propped(made-up word). It's ridiculous to see people cheating to get some made-up number higher than the other losers who are also cheating.
I love the idea of being able to show people that you beat a game on the hardest difficulty or got 10000 kills in multiplay, but the point system convolutes that idea. I'm not saying they should do-away with the points and just keep the achievements, and I'm not saying that they should make the achievements easier(maybe less time-consuming). They need to find a balance so that casual/normal gamers can get 500 points and the more hardcore crowd can get 1000.
Balancing the achievement systems will make them more fun and acceptable. And even though M$ system is a little screwed-up, Sony's will be 3x times as ridiculous.

| I agree about a line or a balance on the casual gamers and hardcore gamers points. I think that appealing to both of them both gives at least some sense of accomplishment.
While I don't necessarily agree with the eDick idea, I think it's just another way of showing people your accomplishments. It's like having your degree framed on the wall or your doctorate, etc. I don't find that boastful, just a way of showing your hard work... I dunno, again.. a fine line.

Most people(like PGL) get the achievements to get the sense of accomplishment and to be able to talk with other people, who also have it, about how difficult it was to get.
CoD2 on veteran has been a discussion starter for a while. More achievements should be too. Gears on insane looks to be the next one.

I don't have Carbon yet, but I'm guessing that
12 Minute Exit
Perfect Canyon Duel
Big Game Hunter
Online XP Level 1
are four easy ones, using my experience on Most Wanted as a guide.
It also depends greatly if you're working specifically for Achievements, or just playing the game for fun. Far Cry gives you 55 points from the start since you can create multiplayer games with no one else in the room and just exit to lobby to win. But, if you're playing through the single player game...you wouldn't hit that many points before putting 3-4 hours into the game.
I personally like games that give you about 500 points for completing the game, but the other 500 points require extra time.

| I think the 500/500 is a good balance and approach. That's very cool and an interesting way to approach it. Very cool. | |
