Madden 08 Wii boasts 22 multiplayer mini-games

Mini-games and online bouts make this a one-of-kind baller for Wii.

By now most of you know Wii has dominated the casual party game market since its launch late last year.


Electronic Arts, working with the Nintendo hardware, have retooled Madden NFL 08 to breach the casual market yet again, making what some people consider the most technical footballer out there instantly accessible with 22 Wii exclusive multiplayer minigames.

Players can use a simple control interface with only the Wii remote or opt to use the nunchuck as well for more complex play.

The list of games includes events like:

Pocket Presence




Chase and Tackle




Swat Ball




and Coffin Corner (see below for a full list of all 22 minigames)




The mini-games themselves are all run-of-the-mill training stuff, with some being more typical (Rush the QB, Punt Return, Cover Receiver) while others are more, well, mini-gamey (Trench Fight, you).

There is also a new telestrator, which let's you write all over the screen with faux-chalk, marking routes, sizing up holes and more importantly documenting just how badly you nerfed your opponent on the last play. Your telestrator smack-art (yes, we made that up) can be shared with your opponent as well, which makes the new feature all the more glorious.

Of particular note, there will be full online functionality making Madden 08 the 3rd Wii title to feature head-to-head online bouts. Our hope is that it will function better than Mario Strikers: Charged Football did, which had no online headset support and basically had us playing against unnamed gamers we'd never meet again with no talking, which basically felt just like playing the CPU.

Madden NFL 08 hits shelves on August on Wii and every other platform known to man… in fact, we heard there will be a Gamecube version. Wow.

I don't know for sure, but my bet is probably not.

YES! There is online play. EA said their Madden Wii servers were over-loaded this past week even, and apoligized for this. They mentioned that corrective measures have been taken so this problem (lag) should be fixed within a day or so.

Other Wii online games are Super Smash Party and Mario Strikers. Wii Mario Cart will be out in early 2008. I am going to rent Mario Strikers this weekend, so I'll share my thoughts after.
