Possible dumb question

Do I need the legacy controllers to play the downloadable games for the Wii? I am assuming so but just want to make sure be fore I purchase one and then find out I didn't need it.

The classic controller? Yeah, I'm pretty sure you need it for some games. I was at my buddies house the other night and he was gonna buy a game off of the VC. Some of the games had little mentions of which controllers you can use. Quite a few of them said you couldn't use the Wiimote.

I downloaded Super Mario and the answer is NO. Turn your Wii Remote sideways and you can use it to play that game.

It should show you which controllers are compatible with the game before you download it. A lot of them can handle the Classic Controller, the Gamecube controller and some can handle the regular Wii Remote.

I don't have a Wii, but a couple friends do. I check out the VC market place, and all the games I looked at showed which controllers you can use. I didn't see any games who's only controller options was the legacy/classic. A lot had the choice of either the classic or a gamecube controller; I'm assuming you still have gamecube around somewhere.

Some games, like Street Fighter II wouldn't work with just the regular Wii Remote. I think the classic remote works best for these type of games. There's also mention somewhere that a lot of these games have been optimized with the classic controller in mind. I also like the fact that you're not tethered to the console itself with the GCN controller (which has cords the length of like nothing...).

I tried to play Super Mario 64 on my Wii the other night (it was on there when I bought it) and it wouldn't let me past the startup screen. Told me that I needed the classic controller.

really? I thought you could use the classic or a gamecube controller. Do you have a GCN controller, Peench?

Nah, I don't have any other controllers. I will take a photo of the screen next time I'm at home.
