,,,,,,,,,,,and the PS3 doesn't need it huh? and the 360 doesn't need video streaming cause I might send porn from my computer to my big screen. How bout that creepy video camara you can get for the 360 and PS3. Also the ipod shouldn't have added video cause you know what that means. I don't think anybody said those things are needed, they are wanted!

Well If I know One thing, its That Money has no Boundries, and Whether People like it or not (So it seems) Companies are gonna Push the limit, and go over boundries. Pretty Sure Nintendo did not make the Browser for this Option, But ummmmmmm the PSP does the SAME EXACT THING. It is Wireless & can browse the web and Porn Sites, D/l images & Videos straight from the net & play them back, Best of all it Fits in your pocket and can be snuck into your Bathroom. This was the Shocker A While back so The Wii is a Shrug off in my opinion.
The Drug Dealer statement was just an Example that anybody Does what they want Regardless of Laws, or other concequences in this country. Now lets not talk about Cocaine Lollipops.....Please not those

I couldn't agree more, Alter. I don't want to spout my politics here, but I will leave it with the statment that I am amazed and disgusted that it's deemed offensive for store employees to say Merry Christmas; however, some of the trash on the shelves of that store isn't considered to be offensive.

I think it's amazing some of the stuff that we, as a society, will tolerate while, at the same time, we sit by and allow a very vocal PC element that is in the significant minority in our country deem offensive things that are important to us culturally as well as others that are harmless.

My point was simply that the wii is marketed specifically as a gaming machine, specifically to children and families. To my knowledge, the Wii hasn't been marketed as a multi-purpose, this-thing-does-it-all machine. PS3, PSP, and the 360 (to some extent) have marketed their machines as multi-purpose electronic devices, and they were marketed from day one to the adults as much as kids... (I am not claiming that these machines aren't marketed to kids).

Of all the things they could have done with the Wii to upgrade-- graphics, sound, a hard drive, etc... the web browser is the farthest from their supposed market... families. Fine, some people use it, some people have asked for it. All of your points are well taken and legitimate. As I said before, my gripe is about what I feel is an inconsistency... the product that they've produced is intended to entertain and bring people (specifically, families and children) together... why leave the door open on something like that (the ability to access porn) just to inlcude what very few people want? My feeling is, they could have taken the high road... they chose the low road. They could have helped parents out... instead, it's one more thing to monitor.

Didn't intend to get anyone's hackles up. I'm all for free speech and a free market. Companies are obviously free to sell whatever they want-- and your right, they'll sell whatever they want whether it's legal or not. And whether it's tasteful, or uplifting, or morally right, or not.

Again... the point's pretty much moot, because the final responsibility of monitoring children lies with parents, not corporations. I guess I'm just saying, "Come on nintendo, help a brother out!"

If I, being an uneducated parent, was looking for a console to appeal to the whole family and had to choose between the PS3, 360, or Wii, I would definitely look at the Wii. I think my 5 yr old would rather play Mariocart then Halo (but maybe that's just because I didn't raise her right).

Exactly.

Nintendo's built their business around kids in the past... now they're bringing families into the marketing, and trying to get a little "older". But there's no denying this is a younger market product and in the end it's being pitched to and bought by families. We could go around all day about this.

However impractical it is for big business, I've always felt corporations should behave just as responsibly as individuals are required to. I'm not intending to single Nintendo out in this. They've got a great product. I was just expressing my frustration with the inclusion of something in that product that, in my opinion, adds very little and leaves the door open for trouble for kids and parents. But hey, it's just an opinion, and like all opinions it's worth exactly what you paid for it.

As the token Orthodox Jew of this forum I will happily, no make that merrily say that I do not find it offensive if someone wishes me a Merry X-mas. In fact, I even dole out a few Merry X-mases myself in return. What is offensive to the conscience and the soul is when we paralyze ourselves as people by demanding that sensitivities be so high as to allow no one to be an individual.

I love this passage from Aish.com about what the Jewish belief on morality is:

Quote:
The Jewish idea is that the Torah of Moses is a truth for all humanity, whether Jewish or not. The Torah (as explained in the Talmud - Sanhedrin 58b) presents seven mitzvot for non-Jews to observe. These seven laws are the pillars of human civilization, and are named the "Seven Laws of Noah," since all humans are descended from Noah. They are:

1. Do not murder.
2. Do not steal.
3. Do not worship false gods.
4. Do not be sexually immoral.
5. Do not eat a limb removed from a live animal.
6. Do not curse God.
7. Set up courts and bring offenders to justice.

Maimonides explains that any human being who faithfully observes these laws earns a proper place in heaven. So you see, the Torah is for all humanity, no conversion necessary.
In any case, I will close by saying this: we all have character flaws that wind up hurting others and making life difficult at times. The challenge to us as people is to try to live each day making a little progress towards not succumbing to the nurturing of these flaws. Rather we should learn from them and grow towards something better.

Well, I am the Token....listen Im the Arab of this forum, and I don't take offense from people saying to me Merry Christmas, and I don\t like it when people feel sorry because I don't get Gifts. This has nothing to do with what we are talking about here, but i find it funny when customers tell me "You should give me MORE of a discount cause its the Christmas season."

I tried that myself at another store when I was getting something for my Mom for Eid I said "You should give me A discount cause today is Eid" The guy simply said I don't know what your talking about sir and walked away with a WTF expression on his face.

On a Side Note, For a while Nintendo was targeting the younger generation but after realizing all the missed oppurunities with older Generations they are trying to switch things around. Now they are trying to draw in every category including Constant Baiters. Is this Nintendo's Fault just for having a Browser, or the Porn sites fault for making their site in Wii friendly format?

Frag,
Awesome post!

NoLimit -- thank you, thank you, thank you for toning down the mid sentence Capitalizations. I even added one in my post to show that I can meet you part way.
