What comes with Wii?

Hey Folks -

I haven't had any time to really dig around and find out "what's in the box" - I checked all the regular sites BB, CC, GS real quick - but didn't see any links right away that explained what all it came with - so I thought I'd check out here...

My understanding is that it comes with Wii Sports - any idea how many different "sports" games are in that title - and what kind? I think I heard bowling and golf...

Does it come with just one controller?

I think it has wi-fi built-in (hope it's easier to work w/ than the DS lol)

Any other Pros or Cons about what it comes with?

$250 - I'm tempted to pick one up - IF I can just walk in the store and grab one..

it definitely does have WiFi built in. They are touting their Wii Connect24 which is 24 hour connection even when the system is "Off" I guess! Not sure how it works, either.

And yes, you should be able to just walk in and pick one up! If not the day of pretty shortly after because it seems they've anticipated making HUGE amounts of units ready for launch and are still continuing to make huge amounts to make sure most people get them soon after they launch!

I've grown more and more interested in this system since I've still got a handful of Gamecube games, which the Wii will be able to play!

We'll see what happens when it finally comes out this coming Sunday though. I have 120 dollars in store credit at Blockbuster so I am hoping to score it there, if I do end up getting one. I've been accruing so much store credit there with trade ins and nothing to buy, this may be the thing I purchase to get rid of that store credit.

I was initially worried that I wouldn't be able to use the sensor bar with my projector, then I realized, with the lack of graphics I wouldn't really want to play on my projector, so I would just have it hooked up to my little 22" LCD TV. I also know there's talk that extension cables will be avaible to purchase for the sensor to help compensate for some of the lengthier cord runs.

Ah well, I'm just speculating!

Thanks!!

That begs another question (actually - a couple lol). They list:

one Wii Remote, one Nunchuk attachment, one Sensor Bar,

Does that mean if I want to pick up a second one, I have to buy all 3 separately? Or do I just pick up 'another controller' - and it comes w/ the nunchuck and sensor bar? I was under the assumption that it's a one box thing.

LAME!!! I know it's only 480p, but the 'p' is there - I'd like to use component... Guess I"ll have to pick those up too. Hope I don't need an adapter like the old Xbox did.

Yeah Jon, you just reminded me of a question I had months ago on this thing... So - it won't work on front projection setups?? I really wanted to consolidate all of my consoles in the pj room.

And about the longer cord run - so these things aren't wireless? That kinda blows too...

So - for two person joy - I'm looking at picking up another controller (hoping all 3 parts are in one box and not sold separately), a component cable (adapter?), and a longer cable for each one? But I guess first I gotta figure out if it will work on a projector.

That cable deal sucks, I spent cash on the mail order only Gamecube cable and they could not make it work with basically the same system?

You know, the more I think about it the more I am going 360 only for a few years, I have read the reviews of some of these early titles and I do not think I need to buy a new console and all the crap they will not include for one or two games.

They are seriously turning me off and spending cash on games for the 360 with Live and this community makes more sense to me then forking over $700 + dollars to play MGS4 or $300+ dollars to play Twilight Princess.

You only need one sensor bar for your system. The Wii Remote is $40 and the Nunchuk is sold seperately for $20.

The controllers are wireless. They two pieces attach by wire. You can use the Wii with a front projector the key is getting the sensor bar run under or above your screen. Depending on where your components are that can be the problem. There is no technical reason you can't play this on the projector.

Speaking of the Wii Controller, I just read that the classic controller does not in fact plug into the console, it plus into the port on the bottom of the Wii Remote and then works wireless via that! Good news from the OLD gamecube controllers wires which were like 3 feet too short for me!

Talking about GCN controllers... the Wavebird works with the Wii too! Another thing that's pretty exciting for me, if I get the system!!

As for the Sensor Bar, like I said, I don't think I'll be running it with my projector that much. And on top of that, some games won't use the sensor bar at all, ie. Excite Truck, where it just uses the motion sensor that work directly with the console itself and not with the RF Sensor bar.

I've pulled my gamecube in the floor probably 50 times because of those stupid cords.

I guess I'll have to go do some reading on this whole sensor bar / remote / nunchuck thing... I thought I had a grasp on how it all worked, but apparently not.

Sounds like this sensor bar has to be positioned in front of the screen (like a center channel speaker) - and if that's the case, I may be outta luck. My screen is about 17 - 19 ft from my console rack. So unless this bar is wireless, I'm screwed there.

And ya also say some games use it - some don't.. So now I'm really confused on what it's purpose is

I'll go surf around and see if I can get the full scoop.

I gotta say though - I'm with you Crank... Everything is pretty smooth with the 360 as it is. I was getting sucked into the Wii hype and thought it'd be cool to try it out - especially for $250 - but not if I have to jump through a bunch of hoops (and an extra $100) lol

Shib,

Let me help explain the purpose of the sensor bar a little bit more.

On the front of the Wii Remote itself there's an RF sensor that will be working together with the sensor bar. So any game that uses the RF sensor like Call of Duty 3, Zelda, etc. Will need the sensor bar in front of whatever screen you're going to use to match up what you are pointing at on the screen and then send the information to the console. Other games, like Excite Truck, where the controller is sideways or more speficially solely just used as a tilt sensor, the information is just directly sent to the console itself.

And yes, the sensor has to be positioned just below or on top of the screen for it to work properly.

I wonder what the connectivity with the DS will be like also!

I've said it before, this will be an interesting weekend, to say the least!

Yeah, I am about the gameplay as well it just seems that Nintendo is cashing in on Gamecube 1.5 with a special controller for 2.5 times the price. I really hate having to buy new cables every time I buy a console, it is so nickle and dime.

Gotta love Smash Bros and Zelda though.

I was saying last night that this is the first time in many a release I do not feel compelled to rush out and buy a new system.

I will get a wii, but no way am I waiting in line or turning to $bay for one.
