Dr. Deborah Bass, Deputy Project Scientist, Phoenix Mars Mission
Dr. Deborah Bass and her colleagues at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and University of Arizona have sent a Martian lander on a 400 million mile/10 month journey to the Martian arctic. The lander is equipped with some of the most sophisticated geological instruments to study the history of water and potential for life in the Martian Arctic's ice-rich soil. We are potentially on the verge of one of history's most important discoveries. In less than ten months, a set of experiments will be performed to determine if there * IS * or * WAS * life in the waters of the Martian arctic. For more information please visit
