Raiders Mourn Gene Upshaw
August 21, 2008
...
The Oakland Raiders mourn the passing of Raider Legend, Hall of Fame offensive guard and Executive Director of the NFL Players Association Gene Upshaw.
“The Raider Organization, the National Football League, and the world have lost a great man. Gene Upshaw’s career successes as a professional football player and a union leader are unparalleled. He is as prominent a sportsman as the world has known. He was and will remain a part of the fabric of our lives and of the Raider mystique and legacy. We loved him and he loved us. We will miss him. Our hearts go out to Terri and the boys.” — Al Davis
Upshaw, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 8, 1987, played for the Raiders for 15 seasons, and is the only person in NFL history to have played in Super Bowls in three different decades (Super Bowl II, Super Bowl XI and Super Bowl XV).

| That was really sad about Upshaw. He was one of the very few Raiders that I ever respected.
And what's with all the hating on the Cardinals? Yeah, they suck, but anyone notice that last night, in the preseason game that always has the most playing time for the starters, they goosed the Raiduhs 24-0? Fan-freaking-tastic!
The Cardinals will never live up to expectations/hopes because they have the worst owners in all of football. The Bidwell family never invests in the team, and they always appear to be looking for their next dollar. It is very frustrating, and I'm not even a Cards fan.
From the local paper today: "Leinart had three interceptions in the first half and completed just 4 of 12 passes for 24 yards. His passer rating was 2.8, which wouldn't even be a good GPA." Classic.
Lastly, Dierdorf probably is the best all-time Card, although Lomax should be considered, possibly Roy Green. Tillman was not the best player who ever played for the birds, but he will always be the most respected. I had the honor of spending quite a bit of time with him in our ASU days, and he was a great guy. Not many would have been able to make the choice that he so willingly did.

| I don't think we were hating the Cardinals. We just didn't think they survey was very good for the Cardinals. On top of that, we were just having trouble thinking who would be best all time cardinal. It's big challenge considering they're not a team with any kind of tradition of winning. Two playoffs win in the franchise history, and the last one was with Jake Plummer back in 1997. The one before that was when they were the St. Louis Cardinals. Never mind they've always been in small markets, so the media exposure has been somewhat limited.
Although the Raiders lost, the score wasn't exactly reflective of the game. Most of the points the Cardinals got was in the second half. The Raiders just play very poorly in the red zone. Outside the redzone, they move the ball pretty well. The defense with the starters played pretty well; a few missed assignments. The defense fell apart when they had guys fighting for a job; a lot of missed assignments, bad positions, and so forth.
The Cardinals need to sure up the defense line. Lienart played a poor game. I don't know if it was miss communication or what between the QB and WRs, but a lot balls were thrown short.
But don't worry AZ, the Broncos still stink!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah that was fairly boring at best, it started out ok with the Giants moving the ball, but Jason Campbell looks to have digressed and Jim Zorn made a number of questionable decisions throughout, mainly in the 4th quarter. other than that, it was awesome!!
hopefully Sundays games will be a bit more entertaining

That way, 85 is retired (Chuck Hughes), and C. Johnson is already taken (Calvin Johnson, another star receiver) so he can't change it back. Not to mention, they've got so many damn great receivers, he'd just fall into the mix and be forced to make an even bigger ass of himself to get any attention.
That would be incredibly awesome.
