College Football - 2008 Season

Yes, it's early. But I'm so freakin excited that I had to make a thread.

This is the best team Georgia's had since I was 6 years old, and I feel like we should legitimately contend for a national title. We return almost our entire team from last year, and we're stocked at every position. The only problem is that we play one of, if not THE toughest schedule in college football. But, if we can get through with 1 loss, I think we'll be playing in the title game.

For an early preseason guess for the polls, I'll go with:
1. UGA - Yeah, they're my team, but I honestly think they're the best in college football going in. They are loaded this year.
2. USC - Always loaded, but they have to start a new quarterback, and their speed at Wide receiver is suspect. Yes, I said it, but it's true. For the first year in a long time, they don't have a ton of speed on the edge.
3. Florida - while I think their offense is going to be very good, they will have trouble on defense.
4. Ohio State - also returning a ton of players from last year. But, the Big 10 is being blasted by the media, and thus, I can't see Ohio State being preranked over 4th. They will have a good team, though. Of course, they have to play USC in the regular season, and that will be their season. Period.
5. Oklahoma - Another contender this year, they return a ton of talent. They could be the dark horse to enter a national championship game.

What are your thoughts? How do you think your team will do? Predictions?

Let the smack talk begin!

That's a bold statement Quo!

Nebraska will work their way to 9 wins or so; first year under a new coach is always difficult.

ASU is looking very solid (there are rumblings of a pre-season top 10 ranking) and could very well take down USC for the Pac 10. I can't wait!

Georgia plays ASU for their fourth game of the season in Arizona. It's going to be a darn good time. I'll be there for sure

That's right, I totally forgot about that! It's still going to be mighty warm at that time, which might work in ASU's favor. Let's make sure that we get together when you're out here!

Sounds good to me. I'll be with about 5 other UGA fans.

As far as heat...I'm not sure. It's dry heat, so that will be different, but Athens in the late parts of summer is QUITE hot. It's just humid-hot, so that would be the difference. But yeah, not sure if that will factor in or not.

I think that USC-Ohio St. game is going to be huge! Hats off to both school for scheduling such a tough non-conference game. I would expect Ohio St to lose that game, but if they do that will be thier only loss all season so you could see them move right back up the charts.

I like Georgia a lot, but they play in the brutal SEC where they could win but may still suffer two losses, which might put them behind a 1-loss Ohio St.

That's the scenario that would be interesting. This is one year that I could see a two loss team (say Georgia in this case) beating out a one loss Ohio State team because Ohio State has played in 2 in a row, and has been killed in both. That leaves a bad taste in the mouths of voters, so that specific scenario would be very interesting to see.

But of course, I'd rather Georgia just go undefeated and not have to worry about that

I am worried about that game. It sits in a spot that's uncomfortable. Right after our first SEC game against South Carolina (who we ALWAYS have trouble with, no matter how much they suck), and we have to travel to unknown territory and play a very good ASU team.

Definitely sets up pretty scary to me.

Georgia is a really good football team in the sec and kind of got skrewed on the bowl game they were in before and i think Georgia and Florida are the east powerhouses this year and LSU and Arkansas are the west

I would agree with the East. Florida and Georgia are going to be the top 2.

I think the West is going to be harder to predict. I think anyone has a shot of taking it, and we could easily see a 2 loss team take the west.

The way I see it:

Arkansas - lost their two best players by far
LSU - no QB; lost a lot up front of Defense
Auburn - completely new offense
Alabama - young young young
Ole Miss - still in the crapper
Miss. State - always mediocre-ish, but they could surprise some West teams this year

I think LSU and Arkansas is a decent bet, but honestly, it's a year where I wouldn't be surprised if a dark horse took it.
