| Halo 3 - are you happy or disappointed? One of the most hyped and most anticipated games has now been out for about a week. No doubt most everyone has had a chance to play some SP campaign or co-op and perhaps some MP as well. So.... was it worth the wait or are you disappointed?
I just finished chapter V last night so I can't comment on the story line, but so far I'm intrigued and want to "finish the fight," before I comment on the story line. I'm really digging MP playing with PGL'ers too so I'd say I am happy!
What about you? Remember - NO SPOILERS in this thread please.

Multiplayer (when not accompanied by excessive lag) is a heck of a lot of fun with PGLers. There are so many different multiplayer game variants, so it doesnt get old quickly. On the other hand, the story mode lost my interest in the first level, and I haven't even had the desire to play it again. I'm sure I will eventually, but so far, I'm disappointed that it didn't captivate my interest the way the Halo and Halo 2 did (especially Halo).

Causedawg, the campaign is so much better on Legendary in Co-op. You and Kama and I should get together... we can grab one more and finish the fight. Cujo's gonna be renting it, so we could play it through. I've played it through on Legendary with my Goo-bro's and it rocks. The frantic action is what you need to get you into the campaign.

Haven't played Halo since I got it. Let's get a party together some time and get through that Legendary on co-op, though. Sounds fun.

I'm already sharing funny stories about it, like when Elektromagneto walks in front of everyone while they are shooting. He got killed many times that way.
I'd comment on the multiplayer, but I honestly don't like it (or any deathmatch type stuff). It's not really my cup of tea. Team games are simply ok, but free for all just plain stinks. The assault rifle is utterly useless in MP, and many weapons are way too powerful. Too competitive for me as it stands, though the one variant I enjoy is Zombies. That never gets old.
Overall, I don't know if it lived up to the hype because I never really bought into it. I'm certainly not dissapointed and it's a game worth owning just for 4 player co-op. I may never get into the multiplayer aspect of the game as it seems just like a bunch of people jumping all over the map.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Missouri City, TX Age: 39 | So far I'm disappointed (with an asterisk). I have not finished the SP, and have not done co-op, but I have played quite a bit (for me) of MP.
It's not so much that I'm disappointed, but that I'm not exactly what I would call "happy" either. They had several years since Halo2 came out, and nearly two years to develop for a new "next gen" console, plus more hype and anticipation than any other video game in history (until GTA next spring), and what I think was the opportunity to really take things to the "next level", but all of this really hasn't amount to much from what I've seen.
So far, I think GOW did more with graphics, game play and to some degree MP than I've seen out of Halo3...again "so far."
I enjoy the MP matches, but they don't seem all that much different than Halo2 MP...and maybe that's a good thing to most people. Personally, I liked the MP from GOW better, as it feels more balanced between casual players and hard core. At least in GOW MP, I could get some kills and chainsaw even the best of players every now and then. With Halo3 MP, same story different day...I barely spawn and WHAMMO I'm dead almost instantly.
For me as a casual gamer, that's what I look for...something I can pick up and at least compete in a social environment via MP with other PGLers. I still enjoy playing Halo3 in MP with PGLers, but I know I'm gonna spend alot more time watching the respawn countdown more than I'll actually be playing.
For me that is what I would call "disappointing." On the SP front, again I "so far" have not seen that much different AT ALL from Halo2 other than a fresh coat of graphics. I'm not trying to cause a feud here, but this is why I've been spending more time playing a rented (via GYG) Test Drive Unlimited game than I have Halo3 SP.
Am I missing something?

Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: broken arrow, ok Age: 27 | im surprisingly pleased with this game, im an old school fps'er (quake, unreal), for some reason halo has never 'hooked' me, i dont dig the story, ill play the single player just for the achievements, ill screw with some co-op sometime when im bored and drunk
i have fun 75% of the time when im playing multiplayer, even tho i bitch in a game a lot, which mainly due to very bad matchups and very bad host decision/lag, i dont like that i dont get much say so in what 'game-style' im playing, like that lame ass crazy kings or whatever
ok, so thats a lot of stuff i dont like about it, and heres my short reason for liking it, matchmaking, i love how i can open my friends list from any menu in the game!
i think halo3 is a good game and its fun, and will get lots of play from me. until cod4 comes out at least, then it will be a coaster

I am also disappointed about the fact that there isn't a custom games matchmaking, from what I had heard or thought I had heard was that there was going to be custom games matchmaking but I guess that feature got cut. A lot of these things could be changed down the road though.
Besides those things I am completely happy with the game, I considered saying I was disappointed with the majority of Multiplayer achievements being only in Free for alls but I guess that makes them a bit harder and I know I can get them eventually. As for single player GOW cannot hold a candle to halo 3 story mode there is no comparison halo 3 is awesome. Many times larger and 1000 times more free form after playing H3 GOW campaign just seems linear to me.
Does anyone want to help me play through on legendary I was thinking about starting tonight, If you need skulls I can help you get all of them on the way.

Having played through the single player campaign twice, and currently working on my third time, I can finally say that storyline wise, it finally has the emotional payoff that Halo: CE had.
First of all, you don't get the full story playing through in co-op, at least not the full experience. The side dialogue and NPC chatter is some of the best, and with over 38,000 lines of NPC (Just NPC) dialogue, there is a lot to be heard.
Second, I've never played a single player game and yelled "Oh shit" as much as I have Halo 3. I did it a lot in Halo: CE, but never to this extent. I used to pick up and play Assault on the Control Room over and over again, because that 5 seconds of fun just kept repeating. It's amplified so much more in this game it's almost unreal.
Compared to the open environments of these levels, Gears of War was a narrow tightrope walk in comparison. The different ways you can accomplish almost everything, and take down tanks, scarabs, banshees & phantoms is just insane. In a way, I'm kind of glad Halo 2 was a bit of a failure, because Bungie so obviously learned from what went wrong, and then came back and owned it in a $170 Million Dollar way.
No game is going to be for everyone, and those that don't like Halo 3 will surely find something else to play. With 50 of the 100 people on my friend's list playing this on any given night, it's refreshing to have that unity back. It's so nice being able to fill a 16 player room in a matter of seconds.
It's also refreshing not having to bother to invite Biffco into any of them!

| Yeah the Games great, The Multiplayer is Fun especially Custom Games like Rocket Race, Pinball, Oddball, Zombie. But i hate the respawn into hell factor, or respawn under an attacking banshee type deal. To me the Fps's That are round Based have a lot more strategy in them, because nobody wants to die and wait which adds more intensity to the game. I hate Killing like 3 people and think im about to get away (FINALLY!) then the first person i killed just assassinates me from behind. Thats why GOW and Shadowrun has more strats in them, But Halo 3 is just plain fun with pop out and shoot'em style. I heard A lot of people say they dont like Run and gun but then they stand in line overnight for Halo 3, Me myself im in the middle. If you do the run and gun good with respawning and vehicles than thats awesome. one of my favorite run and gun games is COD, The way they make you feel is immersive, and gets you in the game. Halo 3 is not immersive during its fights like GOW or COD but its HUGE and a lot going on. I think to me its hits the spot on Multiplayer and custom games.
GOW 2 will be the SHIZNIT, so will COD4, so will HALF-LIFE, Im not gonna be an addict on Halo 3 during november. I suggest all of you play the CRAP out of this game for this month cause next month....Other shooters will take control and will be getting playtime, at least for me. Dont forget Assassin's creed.
Overall Im Satisfied, But my Bar was never at a high level to begin with...GTA on the other hand will be getting a poll...They bes deliver.
