State of the Site

So I wanted to give everyone a status report on the site. As many have noticed it has been a little ruff lately with various errors, etc. Well I want to ask you all to hang with us a little longer. I guess this is why we call it beta. We are going to research a new host and leave Netfirms. We have tried to work it out with them since we got here with no luck. So we have learned our lesson and are looking for a hosting company that better supports vBulletin.

Again I want to thank all of you the members for making this place what it is a great place to meet and share your thoughts. Without you we would not have over 8,000 posts.

The site is great guys. Thanks to the people behind the curtin and thanks to the members for keeping it funny and informative. Heck I love it so much I just bought a HP notebook cause I'm working outta town this week and I couldn't imagine not reading this site. Plus the free porn!

We set up the new host this morning. Now we'll work on setting everything up over there and then migrating the data, etc. We'll work to get the site moved over in the evening hours so as not to disrupt too many people. But there may be a few hours where we have the site closed down so we don't lose posts here while we are transferring. Thanks for bearing with us!

We are going to be accepting contributions at some point. We haven't done it yet because we're working on some deals that will offer benefits to members and we don't want people to think we're trying to double dip (i.e. ask for contributions and then offer deals later to members, etc.). I guess we can always work something out if you all are simply dying to contribute!!

Given the continued errors and lack of support from Netfirms we will hopefully be moving soon. We want to make sure we do it when we can have time to get it all set up right and moved over without a hitch and make sure we have time to deal with the hitches if/when they arise.

We'll throw up a splash page letting you know we're in the process of moving. We're hoping to move sometime before the end of the weekend. Thanks for the patience and support everyone. I've got my fingers crossed that our new host will rock!

We're getting closer to the move (and none too soon in my opinion!).

So far we've moved over most of the data to the new server and we've backed up a database and are testing moving it over. We have to convert the database from MySQL4 to 5 and then upload it at the new site. For some reason we're receiving an error when trying to upload it. We're working through that right now.

Once we get that worked out we will find a date and time that will hopefully not affect too many people and we will do the following:

1. Close the forum for posting.
2. Switch the main page (www.PreGameLobby.com) to a splash page that indicates we are moving.
3. Wait about 30 mins to an hour to make sure any posts which were in the middle of being posted are taken.
4. Backup the database.
5. Convert the database
6. Upload the database to the new site
7. Switch the DNS to point the domain name to the new server.

Once we do that and you go to PreGameLobby.com you should see the site back up and running again as if nothing has happened. Of course, it should be faster and there shouldn't be an error every 2 page loads!!
