Pirates!
The title would suggest I was excited...but the exclamation point is part of the title.
This game is getting very good reviews, as it apparently isn't just a simple port. The developers took the time to tweak the things that weren't "perfect" with the PC and Xbox versions, and thus have made a game that evidently kicks some swashbuckling arse.
8.5 from Gamespot, and 9.0 from IGN.
Anyone grabbing this (besides me)?

I vaguely recall reading about it, but what's the premise and style of the game?

It was released on the 22nd I believe, but not much fanfair around it. Oddly enough, it sounds like it's one of the best games on the system.
Link to gamerankings for Pirates (only two reviews)

The premise/style echoes the PC and Xbox versions, but if you didn't play those, the game revolves around everything it takes to be a pirate. You age as well, and you get to pillage towns, have giant sea battles, dance with the daughters of high officials (in mini game fashion), search for lost treasure....basically anything it takes to be a pirate.
It's evidently pretty free roaming, meaning you can do whatever you want. I know that many things are built around mini-games. For instance, you have like three choices of taking a town: attacking it head on, sneaking in and taking control, or...something else. Anyway, each way would have a different kind of mini game.
Sounds really sweet, especially at the 20 dollar price point (I think that's at Gamestop only though....that part's a little foggy).

That does sound interesting. I haven't played anything other than Sudoku on my PSP lately so this might be worth picking - especially for $20!

I got this a few days ago, and I'm quite addicted.
What I like most is the sea stuff. It's just fun taking over boats, battling old school style with large ships and such. The damage is nice, and makes things quite strategic.
The game as a whole is largely based off of mini-games. It's not "completely free" in that respect (i.e. not a sandbox game), but you can still do whatever you want when you want. So, in that respect, it is pretty wide open.
I'll just leave it at I'm addicted. I've put in a good 6 or 7 hours at this point, and it's easy suddenly realize that I've wasted an hour of time when I should be concentrating on pooping.....err, doing other stuff.
