Got a PSP

I picked up a PSP the other day along with the memory stick and God of War, what are some other essentials I should look into getting?

you should definitely look into getting custom firmware going so you can play homebrew (among other things ) and a really big memory card

there is, but it's not available in the US. Japan has one. I can't say whether you should try to pick one up or not, since I don't know how their broadcast are. They could be digital already or some other kind of band that US stations don't us.

Sony likes to push their slingbox thing. So you would need some sort of internet connection for the PSP, and to have one of their TV Anywhere set up at home.

As for games, I would say to pick up one of the GTA games; I believe Gamestop has them for $15 a piece. I've enjoyed Syphon Filter Dark Shadow (it also has game sharing), and I like Papaton. If you shop around, you can pick all those games up for $20 or less if you shop around.

If you plan on some gaming while traveling, you may want to consider getting a game case. I got the Sony Traveler case for $20. It holds two games, two Duo sticks. The only big knock on it is if you want to change games, you have to take the unit out of the case, and the WAN switch can be hard to move while in the case. I don't have it, but I don't think it'll work if you have the big battery. I'm assuming you got a slim PSP.

what are the pro's and con's of custom firmware?

The con would be you couldn't update the firmware past the one they've hacked, and that might make you miss out on some functions they (Sony) have added. I've only read alittle so I'm not sure which firmware is the last you can play pirated games on

there really arent any cons to custom firmware, the latest official firmwares are hacked so quickly. as for cons, the skies the limit. anything a programmer can write, the psp can do really. it can play homebrew games, illegally pirated games, i think you can put some sort of google maps of it to function like a GPS. you can do all sorts of tweaking to the system itself, you can overclock your psp. its definitely a good thing!

yea i agree. the custom firmwares are released very quickly.

I agree!! Just got the first one from Goozex and it's a lot of fun. I hear Open Tee 2 is quite a bit better, too.
