GPS device for US PSP users

CES: GPS peripheral coming soon to the US - PSP Fanboy

This has me interested in holding on to my new PSP. The more functionality they keep adding to the device, the hard it is to want to sell it. Anyone know what the price on this might be?

That looks awesome, but how will it work? The PSP has wireless access, but unless there are wireless hot spots as you drive through the town, how will it know where you are?

No, it said that the GPS thing would be a UMD disc. Are they somehow making the UMD disc a GPS device or is there something else that will be plugged into the PSP? Maybe I'm just not getting it!! Wouldn't be the first time!! haha

My take was that there would be a gps device that would connect, but the software would run off a umd disc. I found this off google Buy GPS Receiver (Sony PSP) - Order Now! . It's available in other countries, just not in the US yet.

ahhhh! Now that makes sense. A different peripheral that uses the PSP video screen and software on the UMD disc. You could just buy a new UMD disc when you want to update. I wonder if the software would run off the memory sticks too?

Thanks for the clarification supafreak!

Prophet0ne is on a distinguished road

My current GPS runs much the same way with pre-loaded maps. After I registered it they offered to send me notices when updates to maps are needed. I can download the new maps on to the SD card that came with it and I'm good to go. I imagine that the memory stick will function much the same way. Cool, thanks for the info supafreak.
