critic review: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Gamespy: 4.5/5

Ultimately, there's little to dislike about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Even if you're not a platforming fan, there's plenty of action here to balance out the near-death leaps of faith. It might not have the running time of other titles on the market, but the leanness of the experience and time invested are fulfilling, plus the replay value is strong. It's also worth noting that you might also be surprised by how much it pushes the envelope on its T rating. The violence isn't graphic, but a bloody headshot is a bloody headshot, and the amount of blue language is surprising. It's also utilizes the system's technology wonderfully for both the visuals and load-free gaming. The PS3 has received a good share of solid games this year, but any gamers who own the console owe it to themselves to check out Uncharted. It stands out from the current sea of first-person shooters, and you won't find a better action/adventure game this year.
IGN: 9.1/10

Here's the thing about Uncharted, the final sum is far greater than the individual parts. Maybe you don't dig the combat or maybe the pop-in gets you down, but the overall package of an endearing story, outstanding score, great performances and fun gameplay should put this title on the top of your holiday wishlist. Say what you will about the PS3, but Uncharted isn't just a standout for Sony -- it's a standout for gaming as a whole.
Eurogamer.net: 9/10

By focusing on keeping things fun at all times, it might not be considered the most expansive or ambitious game out there. It doesn't have a free-form openworld, but this is proof - if it were needed - that making a linear action game is nothing to be sneered at. By starting with a great control and camera system, building on that with excellent combat and a wonderful spin on Ico's platform adventuring, and then topping it off with a decent storyline, Naughty Dog has cooked up one of the most relentlessly entertaining, fat-free games to emerge in ages. Topped off with the most stunning use of the PS3's underused technical prowess yet, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is, for my money, the first must-have PlayStation 3 title.
1UP: 8.5/10

The breadth of Uncharted's entertaining acrobatics/gunfight gameplay mix more than makes up for its shortcomings, as does the safe but satisfying story (even if it does get a little ridiculous by the end). It's definitely the type of game that makes you glad you have a PS3.

Good to hear the story is decent. I liked how they kinda started it, but I didn't get too far into it with the demo. I probably won't buy it first day (because I've got too many games unopened collecting dust right now), but I will get it eventually for sure!

Actually, the demo is a bit into the game, said something like Chapter 4. I'll pick it up at some point as well. Heck, need something other than a Ninja game to play on the machine, beside blue ray movies, LOL.
