I've had issues with streaming music and photos on the PS3 since they released that feature. Back when I was using Windows Media Connect I could see all my photos and music and watch/play them all. Oddly enough though I could only play one track at a time as the PS3 would not let me choose one song and then play thru the whole album... weird.
So I modified my server by upgrading to Windows XP Media Center edition (wanted to try out the media center stuff w/ the 360) and upgraded to Windows media player 11. For some reason the PS3 wouldn't show ANY of my music files in the music directory. If I dug around using other areas where I could get to the "folders" option I could find the music, but it wouldn't play. I also found music here and there in random places, but not a complete list. The sharing is fine because they all show up on my 360 so it has to be something with the PS3.
I was having issues w/ my upgrade (never upgrade an OS), so I wiped it and installed XPMCE cleanly. I upgraded to WMP11 and shared the media, etc. The PS3 gave me the exact same errors. In fact, it showed the exact same files as before. Now this is with a completely different OS install , a completely different media player and a brand new music database. My thought is that the PS3 caches this data somehow and that the cache is jacked up. I'm not positive though as when it refuses to show any music it gives me the following error "a network error occured." Yeah, real helpful stuff right there.
So I'm not sure what the heck the deal is but am wondering if anyone knows how to either clear the cache or otherwise get the music streaming to work. It may also have to do with the fact that I have about 100 gigs worth of music. Perhaps there is a limit to what the PS3 will recognize? Or perhaps the library is so large that the PS3 is timing out before it can read it all and giving me the generic network error instead? I dunno but it is bugging the living crap out of me so any help or ideas you all can throw my way would be much appreciated!
