According to the NPD numbers from March, the PS3 was outsold by both the Xbox360 and the PS2. Sony has responded to these dismal numbers by claiming that the Euro PS3 launch has put a real strain on Sony's PS3 stock.
"We continued to find ourselves supply constrained in March due primarily to the shift in manufacturing focus to the PS3 PAL version to support the launch of the system in Europe."
PS3 sales were by up by 2 per cent last month, according to the Sony statment, to reach 129,638 units, but the NPD figures also state 199,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold during March. Of course, the Wii came out on top with 259,000 units - despite continuing stock shortages, so it seems stock does not matter that much if the product is truly worthy. Then again, we really want the PS3 to kick it into gear, the system itself is really not a bad unit at all. Sony just needs to get the ball rolling, and fast.
