DMC 4 Petition Online, Capcom Responds

The uproar over Capcom turning Devil May Cry 4 into a multiplatform title has been...well, loud. The official Capcom forums suffered the brunt of the outrage, of course, and after fans found out the game would also be available on the Xbox 360, they formed a petition. The petition states that the "undersigned" would be boycotting all Capcom's products - not just DMC 4 - until the decision was reversed and the anticipated action title is once again a PS3 exclusive.

In the topic entitled, "What are you thinking, Capcom?" in the forums, the senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, replied with the following:

"We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes. At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers."

The man has a point, but that likely won't halt the petition. You can find it at the Petition Online Web Site, and states that fans feel "very left out of the decision," and that the move is "absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself." As of right now, the petition is closing in on 8,000 signatures (7,965), so plenty of people aren't happy with the current DMC situation.

Well, while it's highly unlikely the decision to go multi with DMC 4 will be reversed, it's good to see so many gamers so passionate about certain topics.

I think the best response would have been:

"Thank you to all of you loyal supporters. We discussed this issue at length and felt that it was best to permit more gamers the opportunity to play our games. Considering the cost to create games these days it was the most prudent financial decision to ensure the viability of Capcom and future DMC games.

In the alternative, however, we have determined that we could ensure financial viability if all of you loyal fans who signed this petition agreed to pay $500 for each next installment of DMC. By ensuring this additional source of income from DMC's loyal fans, we can ensure that we remain financially solvent while generating new and exciting content.

Since we believe the vast majority of you who signed this petition are unwilling to pay an exorbitant amount of money for DMC to remain an exclusive title, we will continue in the course we believe to be in the best interest of gamers everywhere.

Quit you're whining!"

I shoulda gone into PR!

Blah, with people boycotting them because they have expanded away from Sony is laughable. Remember when Squaresoft was Nintendo only and then they decided to go and develop for the PS1? Pretty sure that people were going to boycott the system until they tried the games.

There is only one thing that people can really complain about and be semi right. That is if they take the time to make the other versions then that takes away time and money from making the one version that much better. Think of all the really great games, most of them were not multiplatform.

I continued to think about this topic and then I remembered that DMC 3 was eventually released on the PC. Realistically speaking there are more PCs in the world than Xbox 360s, so why was there no outcry against it? These fans are a little loopy in my opinion.

They also could have said something like this:

"Dear Fans -

Thanks for the signed ass napkin. We will enjoy cleaning our backsides with it.

Sincerely -

Capcom

PS - here's a punch in the chin. Enjoy!"
