Sony's UK head of sales Kevin Jowett quits
A mere five weeks before PS3 is set to launch in the UK, Sony’s UK head of sales Kevin Jowett has tendered his resignation, which went into effect immediately.
Website MCV is reporting that he "resigned to pursue new opportunities outside of the games industry", and there was no mention of PS3 as any reason whatsoever for his departure.
Still, Mr. Jowett had taken over as sales director back in 1998 and contributed to the successes of PS2 and PSP. It's terrible timing for Sony, since the move could possibly disrupt PS3 launch negotations with retailers.
"The timing is absolutely incredible. Kevin is going just as Sony is talking to everyone about terms and arranging pre-orders and in-store marketing campaigns," said an anomymous games buyer on the UK High Street.
"Obviously, Sony is a big organisation and there will be people there who can fill Kevin’s position. But this can’t be helpful to them."
The drama continues.
