Article: "PS3 To Stage A Resurgence"

As we get further into 2007, it seems the gloomy PS3 stories are starting to fade, and the positive and hopeful are beginning to emerge. The latest is from the Austin American-Statesman, and it outlines a likely "resurgence" from Sony and their next-generation console. While it does go through the typical low demand, high price, and lack of games, the tone is upbeat, with plenty of solid quotes.

One such quote is from Kitt McCurdy, an analyst for GameSpot Trax.

"Technologically, the PS3 blows the Wii out of the water. In terms of visuals and graphics, it's excellent," McCurdy said. "Everyone's going to wait and see if the PS3 puts out that killer app that's going to be so amazing everyone's going to drop 600 bucks on a console because they want to play it so badly."

While graphics don't mean everything, it's impossible to say they mean nothing. And the question remains, can the novelty of that Wii-mote stay solid for four, five, and six years? Or will it already begin to show its age this year? As for the 360, it has already been out for over a year, and the PS3 can compete visually...what will happen down the road, when (and if) the PS3 hardware is proven superior? It's superior on paper, technically, but what counts is if developers can access that power effectively and implement it into the software.

Another major point made in the article is the issue of games. We all know the games are few and far between for both the PS3 and Wii right now, but looking forward to the end of 2007...

"At the end of 2006, the Wii had 54 games available, compared with 22 for the PS3. But in 2007, the PS3 is expected to add 127 games; the Wii has 76 scheduled to come out this year."

So in the end, as we've been saying for quite some time, the games are all that matter. And when the PS3 starts to roll them out, the system will begin to sell. It's a relatively simple formula for success, really.

The 360's graphics chip IS superior to that in the PS3, so that guy is wrong. The PS3 gets the nod in raw CPU power, but I don't see that kicking in to bring the PS3 above the 360 in raw visuals.
