System Update 1.51

Turned on the PS3 last night and was told there was an update. I updated it (and grumbled again about having to plug in my controller to do it), and was hoping it had fixed some of the issues raised with 1.50. After I finished the update I watched Underworld: Evolutions on BluRay. Well about half-way thru the movie it paused for about 3-5 seconds and then started back up again. Reminded me of a reaaaaaaly bad layer change segment. Nothing like ruining the mood of a movie with a really long unexpected pause. Lame.

So looks like that wasn't fixed.

But I did play Untold Legends last night and loved it!

hahahaha cool, yeah I updated my system last night but, haven't watched anything on it. Sucks that they didn't fix the problem, though...

Have you guys tried turning networking off in the prefences menu when you go to watch a Blu-Ray disc? Reports on the internet are saying that doing that remedies the problem untl Sony releases a patch to fix it.

If any of you guys go to watch a movie, try it out and post back here. I'll do the same when I get mine.

hmmm I hadn't tried turning the network off, although I did try to turn off automatic sign-in which didn't help. Not quite the same thing but, I thought it might help.

I'll definitely have to check turning the network completely off, though!

Thanks for the tip Brad. I don't know that I have any BluRay discs left to try (sent the last one back to Netflix), but next one I get I'll try it out. If anyone beats me to testing it, please let us all know if it works!

I'll definitely test it tonight, dunno if it'll actually trip up or not because it seems to be random when it happens.

Just picked up my PS3 today along with some movies. I'm going to try and hold playing around with it until I get the AE900u, but I have a few Blu-ray movies that are lose in the case that I want to make sure work. That is, after I finish my homework.

Btw, I tested one movie out with the network turned off, watched it all the way through without a hitch.

But, that's not a great indication. I have to test a couple more to see if it still helps or not.

I watched another movie, so far so good! I am going to test one more just to make sure that the first two weren't a fluke then I will post the tutorial and what not!

I've left it on while unwrapping the shrinkwrap on the movies and no freezes. In actuality, the tutorial should read like this:

From the PS3 menu:
Go to Settings
Go to Network Settings
Locate Network
Choose "Disable"
When you're done, turn it back on if you like.
