Sony not telling all?
I have several friends in the game and computer industry and today, I just happened to walk by my PC with a MSN message flashing. It was my business partner that works for a game developer that has products for the PC and the consoles. He told me that during lunch he was walking by a room where the company's lawyers and the technology guys were in a conversation about PS3.
From what he gathered, there's a reason why Sony was not able to deliver the proposed amount of consoles. There's a major defect in them which it doesn't seem it has been resolved - Remember during E3 when everyone was shocked when the PS3 launch got moved back? - Well as it turns out, the 180K shipped to the US, 30% are defects.

It would explain why so few were shipped. And as far as defects in the current batch, if thats true, complaints wont start appearing until people receive their shipments via the ebay sellers and get some playtime in.

yikes! 30%?!
I guess that's the price to pay when dealing with mostly brand-new components in the PS3. ie. Blu-ray Drive, Cell Chip, SixAxis controller, Bluetooth, HDMI, etc.
yes, Bluetooth is not new, nor is HDMI really new, but they have major issues that still need to be worked out.

There are vids out showing the single power light on the ps3 turn red and flash and it wont boot to the loading screen. It keeps trying but doesnt succeed.
One of the games that triggers the problem is Tony Hawk, I forget what the other is. But once it happens, none of the other games work. Its not going to get any better in the future with such high tech gadgets my friends(unless you're nintendo and make your new system 8% more powerful than your previous system in order to keep it stable).

The first clue on failure is that it burns your house down and kills your pets... at least thats what I read so far....

So far all the reviews I've read by PS3 owners have been very positive. No problems at all, yet.

lol @ keezy!
Yeah, I've read plenty of good reviews recently.
I am not sure if I believe the 30% entirely, just as much as I didn't believe Microsoft when they said only 4-5% defective rate.
Plus statistics are flawed anyway. I could say statistically out of 6 units I've had 5 were defective. What does that say? 83% failure rate for Xbox 360s!

I don't know what to believe as I just passed along what he left on MSN but I do know that his software company just finalized their decision in not to develop for the PS3.
I am curious though in what they are going to do with the Sony Dev kit.
You'll find negative reviews in forums.

Although not accurate, using poll data from AVSforum out of 142 PS3 owners:
57% Have no problems
25% have some problems
18% have sorts of problems or is dead.

Thanks for passing on the numbers Frodo! Should be interesting. With the electronics coming out smaller and more powerful I think we're all in for a time frame where problems will be seen in pretty much everything electronic. I hope this phase doesn't last too long.
