OK, so I had a thread asking for everyone's GAME ID, but have since killed it, as I was confused. First, let me list all of the different IDs you'll have, and then explain them in greater detail below.
- KONAMI ID
- Game ID
- Character Name
KONAMI ID
This is your ID used to access the Konami site, and is not specific to MGS. This ID is actually never requested in MGO, but you'll need it to get a Game ID and to buy expansions and extras for MGO.
GAME ID
This is your ID associated with MGO. It must be different than your KONAMI ID. Also, you password can only be numbers for some strange reason. This is how you will log into the MGO system.
You can register for both your KONAMI ID and GAME ID at the same time by going here:
https://id.konami.net/pc/top.jsp Character Name
This is the actual name of your in-game character, as well as the name that will show up when people add you as a friend in MGO's friend's list.
As far as other people within MGO are concerned, this is your name/ID/Gamertag etc. You can use your PSN for this, but you do not have to. I did, just to keep things easy.
First, you select the Character Name, followed by
Appearance,
Voice,
Equipment and
Skills. You are then asked to register this Character. Once registered, you cannot change the
Name,
Face or
Voice of your Character. You are, however, still able to change your
Equipment and
Skills after registration, and can do so multiple times.
Out of the box, you can only have one Character per PS3. If you want more, you'll have to buy them for $6 (I think). For that fee, you are able to create and register 4 other Characters.
Check out this sweet Visio diagram of the naming hierarchy
Just to recap, you'll need to do the following:
1. Get your KONAMI ID
2. Get you GAME ID
3. Create your Character and name it.
4. Post your Character ID. I have created a thread for all of us to list our MGO Character names
in this thread.
