| I missed all of the preorder deals and had way too much work to do to sit outside for 4 days. I will probably get one in a few months, but not right now. I will hopefully get some play time on my buddy's here soon so I can post my thoughts. | |

I wanted one, but I don't wait in line for consoles unless it's only an hour or two. 1 week of waiting, hell no.
I've played Motorstorm which is amazing but it isn't a launch game. I also want Resistance but don't mind waiting that much as I haven't even had enough time to complete the Gears campaign yet.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Missouri City, TX Age: 39 | I find this hilarious. This time last year, we were all refreshing the forums every other second to see where you could get an Xbox 360...online, retail, ebay, etc. Remeber the Best Buy 360 launch day list, or the "how to handle the Launch" email from one retailer. It was a huge deal...taking off for Thanksgiving early just to spend all day with our new little toy (360).
How about some of the forum members actually posting while in line to update people on where to get one. That was great, and is really what got me hooked in with this group of gamers.
Now, not only did none of those "Community Building" things take place last week, not only did NO ONE here camp out for one, not only did no one know the secrets to getting one, but here it is 3 days post-PS3 launch and no one even has one...and no one cares!
I like me some Sony stuff, still think PS2 games are some of the best (Shadow of the Colassus, God of War), but this has failure written all over it. Blu-Ray is not the lock for next gen disc-based movies, the PS3 has outcast us 1080i owners, and only one launch title really looks that appealing.
Dreamcast, you may now be de-throned for worst launch ever!

The DC, while a failed console only due to parent company CSK pulling the plug, had possibly the best launch ever, especially for a company that was already in the red and failed financially for the 6 previous years. They broke records with the launch, had tons of great games at launch, had MILLIONS of systems at launch day and none were faulty. EVERY store around here had HUNDREDS of DCs(as in 200 or more) to buy launch morning, not 5 to 20.
Ok I feel better
To the rest of your comments...
There is definitely a lot of catching up to do, Sony had better realize this. They can say "we dont need to compete with MS and Nintendo" all they want and they'll be lying to themselves and digging that hole deeper. The numbers are in and just like developers rumored, they only shipped slightly over 150,000 to the US! NOT 400,000!(the rumor was 150 to 200,000 was much more realistic).
So as of now, worldwide, Sony has SOLD(and shipped) a total of 260,000.
Nintendo, with their U.S. launch(who wont launch in their home territory for another 2 weeks) has ALREADY shipped and sold almost 700,000 Wiis!!! By the time they launch in Japan on the 2nd, they will have sold another 500,000 here, sell another million in Japan, and they launch in Europe with another 500,000 a week later. Thats 2.5 million SOLD 3 weeks from now. Its going to take Sony 4 months to have that many manufactured and ready to ship.
Ok Im getting waaaaaay off topic here so I'll start a thread in General about launch numbers.

The Saturn launch was announced at E3. They stood up and said "saturn is available in stores as of today". You can thank sega of japan for that wonderful idea, lol. It had no hype to build on, no time for marketing, meanwhile it was selling thru the roof in japan and would have done *slightly* better here if they would have waited a bit.
Sega of America was turning the company around and every time they had a good idea, SOJ would shoot it down. I had a very very long 2 page article saved on how SOJ(sega of japan) drove themselves out of business, and sadly it seemed almost intentional(I'll have to look for it again).
Im honestly veru surprised that CSK even allowed Sega to bother with the Dreamcast hardware. Reading the article is what truly proved to me that "japanese stubborness" has no limits. Their culture is very different from ours, and for that reason alone, they will not permit any MS console to succeed there.
Peter Moore knows this better than anyone, he was in charge of the DC and he saw it all 1st hand. He has no choice but to put on a smile and pretend all is well for the 360 over there, lol.

I might get my hands on a PS3 come Wed., or so Gamestop says. I'm the first guy to get cut off on launch so Im the first when the rest of the shipment arrives. I'm not opening it unless I get a second. I cant afford to keep it now.

The first thing I noticed was that the Sixaxis feels cheap. I know its because the rumble weight is removed, but it felt like it could break at any time.
Resistance was okay, but nothing overally fancy. Nothing that you haven't seen before. I suspect that this will be forgotten (like Disruptor) in a year's time. I guess if you've never played FPSs regularly (I guess the assumption is you didn't own a Xbox and stuck by a PS2 exclusively), you'd get a fair amount of enjoyment from it. It felt like re-inventing the wheel for me.
RR7 was actually really good. Using the Sixaxis took some practice but it worked well (As it should with a racing game). I'll admit that I'm a RR6 fan, so I'm a little biased.
One thing I really noticed is that the textures in the games looks awful on a standard resolution. I mean, we're talking maybe 2nd generation PS2 title textures. Much worse compared to a 360 running on standard defination. On 1080i, it looked much cleaner. A word of advice if you're looking to get one, spend this time to invest in a good television.

| Thanks for the comments Kid! Also, spend the money on a proper connection cable so you can get the proper resolution from your TV! | |
